I was just wondering how much boost you guy's run on track. I've been running 13psi @ the manifold but will probably up it a bit soon. I know the old cup cars ran circa 1 bar but has anyone run more? If so, how long were your track sessions? :)

18 psi at cadwell and mallory on STD engine. Better rad and intercooler and a t28. Drove it there, gave it death and drove home without hassle. Now running 22psi at 8k and I will hit mallory again this year.

:agree:, couldnt of said it better , plenty of power and less strain on things= more reliability....:)

As Mart says, circa 1 bar, dial in some advance if you can without det, and set the fuelling up properly and you will have the power to be looking at most machines in your rear view mirror.

If you want to go faster round the twistys i'd spend money on decent suspension (konis adjustables reportedly good) and a set of Ds2500 pads first, then quality tyres. Cheap upgrades - use a different renault model (thicker) front ARB - you can trim wider ones down ;). 21TXI disks with caliper spacers - if you need to) Good luck!

Cheers for the input guys, I was thinking 1 bar would be the way to for a balance of speeds/reliability :agree:

Alistair, I've got all those bits and bobs and I agree with what you're saying.

1 bar I found kept the Clio Sports at bay down the straights the bends is upto your bottle. This was all in a stripped out caged 5. :D

Just make sure the rest of your running gear is up to the task. :agree:

If I was building another track gtt, I'd keep the o.e T2 in place, 1bar boost, as much ignition advance as possible, set of Koni's, decent pads on standard disks (sufficient enough), roll-cage, stripped, and maybe a set of slicks. Grin factor 10 guaranteed :agree: :)

In fact, bar the Koni's & 'cage, that's exactly the spec old Trusty was. Without doubt, they were great days driving that on track.

Damn, I miss that car... :(

1bar @ manifold is enough to have fun & very reliable. If i ever build another track car ill do exactly the same mart, cage slicks & suspension. The cup cars are a hoot on track with only basic mods!

Mart

100% :agree:

They might suffer a bit on the long straights, but round bends, especially on slicks, there's not much that'll keep up with them, and that includes 'CaterFields', 4wd Jap taxi's...and TVR's :D

Corners in a gtt = fun :)

Right guys dont shoot me down but from watching at mallory at last years nd i thought that the gtt's looked a bit poor on the bends, and great on the straights. Two cars that stood out for me were alistairs 2 tone blue gtt and the mushroom cup gtt, they were quick. But hey what do i know.

when you say advance ignition as much as possible how do you know how much i.e does it affect afr's or is it a case of just listening for det?

Ign can and will effect afr`s, but on a GT just use det cans...
