Greetings all.........

As per the photographs - purchased the "uprated" starter motor cheap off ebay, look at the size difference:eek: assuming it's a more effient motor!

I seem to recall people talking about them melting or something along those lines.

Two things, first off do these numbers mean anything to anyone, they are stamped into the new starter and also on the sticker? (want to try and confirm it is what it should be:D)

235-001 and 02FAD07/08/01

Secondly, as per the photo again, is this melting the start of a problem to come?

Cheers for any advice..............Alex

the uprated ones are off a laguna or something similar IIRC, they give a more modern / faster sounding turn over. As youve said, the body is narrower, and yes alot of people have known them stick / not work correctly when fitted to the GTT`s close position to the downpipe........Id personally get a new replacement starter ( valeo or similar ).....Even go the the scrappy and a a decent cond starter from any C series engine 5.....PMT ftw ;):D

Someone previous had heat wrapped the starter motor - seems a good idea!

Was thinking today aswell about buying a starter motor hear shield........what do you guys reakon on one of those????

Renault fitted it there for a reason ;)

having said that, alot of people run O.E starters without the heatshield

yep, i finished a good one off pretty quick with no starter shield, i wrapped it after.. i paid under £20 for the wrap and got a few metal ties, cgb do some cheap but its thin and will take lots or wrapping, the stuff i got elsewhere was wider and far easier to work..

When I got a starter heat sheild from Renault it was about £19 and far easier then farting about with heat wrap, unless the bracket is missing that is but it will stay in palce well enough just off the block stud

count the teeth on the starters. i think the modern 1 has 1 less tooth and destroys flywheels.
