have you made sure the nut is tight on the steering colum?
Theres a 13(i think)mm nut on the colum just reach up behind the plastic and youll feel it.

There are 4 x 13mm nuts that hold the upper column in place, remove the plastic below the dash by the wheel and check they are tight. Also check the nut behind the rubber centre peice of the wheel is on tight, something like 16mm, it holds the wheel onto the splines of the column.

If they are all good and the column is foobard then "mike Phase 1 16v" on here is your man - send him a PM.;)

Steering column bushes wear, (they have a bearing in them also) takes two minutes to replace, take the wheel off making sure its completely level or make a lil mark with a marker(not permanant :P) u should see a rubber bush then pry it out and push the new one back in, it should push over two lumpy bits holding it in place.
There about £7.00 non genuine. not sure what renault charge.

Just a note on the bush, they are cheapest at cgb. I got mine from Renault at a higher cost unfortunately. There are two bushes on the column but the top one seems to deteriate alot faster.
