So this is why ive fitted a flywheel shield to my honda.. Never seen one fail before on a transverse engine... :eek: take note you dragsters...might save a leg.

Scary stuff, atleast on the 5 the flywheel is on the passnger side ;)

from the bit left on the crank it looks to be a cast flywheel, think I'll stick with my steel one.

i have seen that before,have heard about a guy who was killed due to flying debris entering the cockpit...cant remember what car it was though.

My dad used to work on some sort of truck/jcb site equipment place, when he was there on new trucks they had to red line them (2500rpm) and pour some sort of dust down the inlet manifold to bed the rings in/score the bores. while they were doing this They sometimes(rarely) spat the flywheel off straight up through the cab and kill the drivers :eek: They stopped this practice obviously.

A similar thing happened to a Skyline a couple of years ago, although the flywheel cut half the front end open like a tin of beans. There were quite a few pictures but i'll never find them now, luckily the driver kept his legs too.
