Can you manually adjust the accelerator cable or will a new one be needed?

as my revs arent dropping quick enough when returning to idle im changing the accelerator spring later today, i was just asking the question just incase the spring doesnt work.

Thanks Mat

tip of the day. if you have to fit a new cable and dont have a heatshield over the turbo. Throw away the outer sheath which comes with the kit and fit a metal coiled one from a bike shop. That way you wont be buying another cable a week later after the outer has melted to the inner

so, i changed changed spring and went made with the wd40 hoping that it would work but once driving i can see it hasnt.

I did notice that i can pull the cable in the engine bay through towards the drivers side wing then at the the back of the accelerator it seems tight apply the accelerator and in the engine bay the cable has gone taught.

So can i adjust it or do i need a new one?

As said previously my accelerator pedal is to the floor so can i adjust it to a higher height hoping this will keep the cable taught.

Thanks

disconnect from the carb and re locate the run minimizing any sharp turns and while its disconnected spray down the cable too....also make sure your not clamping the cable too tight at the carb also check for cat whiskers on the cable as this will catch on the outer core

There are no sharp turns in the run Ian, it comes out the bulkhead then through like a clamp runs a little more then conects to the back of the carb.????

Update

so i had a little fiddle today;) as well as messing with the car and iv corrected my slack pedal and it is now higher from the floor by loosening the bracket then having the accelerator cable more tightly strecthed then clamped it back up again.

As for the idle it is id say a little better but it seems that the accelerator spring isnt strong enough as when i return to idle its high but if i then with my hand push down on the gold bracket its connected to it will return to idle.

So can i get a stronger spring or should i just make mine shorter as suggested previously.

Thanks

well iv cut the long end and re shaped it to fit just gotta try it now, if it doesnt work its gona be hard to make it even smaller as im right by the coils so wats the plan if it doesnt.

Isnt there a smaller stiffer spring already out there.
