as some of you know I got myself a little project,my neighbour had this for many years and had stood since 1996........
as it had stood outside the weather had really given it a hard time.....both rear arches were no longer attached to the car, LOL, the o/s/frt suspension turret was a free floating system too...to make sure she was worth the effort I popped on a battery, drained some very old 4 star (can still taste it),cleaned the carb out, plugs, points, cap, spark plugs, oil and filter, new battery and turned the key
video in my file,
.....

so , I set too and have already done most the welding and the mechanical work, just set too on the bodywork and preparing it panel by panel, not after a bodyshop quality job so dont mind doing this myself....I hope to be tracking it over the next few years...

itr still had the original Recaro fishnet seats, original front nose cone, all of which makes it a great little find, that , and the fact it had only done 26,153 miles on the clock...
so, i'll keep you posted and as soon as its done I'll crack on with the 9....

a link to pics and vids.....

I started on it the end of July, but with most weekends taken up I have a few week nights in the garage , a few weekends and she's not far off done now....

that includes waiting 5 weeks for a "professional" welder to sort the inner front strut mount, got fed up waiting so I taught myself how to do that bit...LOL..big hammer, bigger grinder and welder.

Nice one Tommy. A mate down here recently finnished his Cossie lumped Cortina to have it on the road for 2 weeks before some kids threw a cone off a bridge and made him swerve... rolled it twice, ended up on its roof... horrible mess. It was a beautiful machine too :(

how many newspapers and tubs of isopon did you use :D (it's the law that you repair fords this way, btw. you're not allowed to do it properly.....it wouldn't be the escort way....)

paul b
21-10-2008, 23:19
the newspaper is so I can look at page 3 jugs to keep me going with all that sanding, LOL.....

i am even mixing ispon in my sleep ..:p

I patched up a MK1 16 years ago, those floors and repairs looks horribly familiar. My parents went on holiday with their cars tucked away in the garage, I pulled them out and fitted my MK1 escort and a mates MK1 cortina estate in their place. We gutted and rebuilt both cars in double quick time, flat out sharing a welder, grinder etc. We managed to finish up, clear up, put the right cars back in the garage, and look all innocent before they got back :D

That point when you look inside and you have a transmission tunnel, a door frame bottom, and a rusty looking bit of U channel joining the front to the rear is a real "O ****" moment

so, a few more nights in the garage, more filling, rubbing down and priming but at last i see the end....LOL.....first coat of black on the bootlid tonight....

for my first time doing bodywork It's not bad.....but sadly it looks like its reacting with the old paint......so, more rubbing down to come.....all good though..

if you take that for a track day I'll jump in for a few laps, what's the plan after the bodywork, stripped out for track and engine swap or just get it on the road and use it?

paul b
06-11-2008, 14:22
no worries, will do a few trackdays and then set too make her pretty again.....

might keep the 9 for track use.....

BUT, I have got a cage ,and some DCOE 40's for the escy......so would make a nice track car if I keep the 9 for road use

Nice job Paul,

Having a go meself with the ol' black, it never seems to go on just right, but it's absolutely amazing what, tcut, polish, etc and good ol' elbow grease can do. I've tried unsucsessfully with buffers, stick with the guns.

Nice one fella.

15-02-2009, 19:15
Paul, thats bloody awesome, good work fella!

So cool, it's off the charts.

Ref. the Pinto, do they have an issue with cam holders or something cracking? I aks because my big cousin, years ago, was into Mrk2 Rs's, and he had that problem twice. Scraps the head or something.

Anyways, second time he put a Cosworth engine in it, and even with only 300 or so horses (not much in today's money) that thing went like phuk.

Happy days, wish I could find a project like that :)

paul b
06-04-2009, 11:02
Pinto's are pretty bullet proof upto 6000rpm...it's continous use over this , and usually fitting the wrong oil spray bar bolt that caused failure....
cracking motor with YB internals though,,,,revv like a banshee on speeeeeeed..LOL..

well, sorry to say this car has to go.....will be on e-bay soon but if anyone knows someone who is after one, rather sell to an enthusiast than a numpty....
