View Full Version : hi 5 update looking good for 400bhp
cars back together now on efi how much smoother it is to drive had it on the dyno last week made 230bhp at 18psi of boost ready now for next step 25 to 27 psi then we can start adding the nos pictures of the new manifold on my profile. a big thanks to scoff and adaptronic a little more mapping to be done by the mad scientist and were looking to test at york dragway in 2 weeks.:)

Thats looking impressive mate, lets hope those numbers are achieved be very impressive. :agree:
Nice, what cam and turbo are you using matey?

i am using a 285 cam and a gt28rs hybrid a little special
glenn's done a fantastic job on the conversion, the manifold is a work of art, the whole bay is really :)

Whats the volume of your inlet manifold?
Sorry for the questions but I'm trying to figure why yours made so much power compared to mine although we have similar specs

We spent 2hrs on the dyno to do that, working on WOT only, road tuning for the rest. I don't think we could have extracted a single HP more from the tune. It's using nigh on 75% of the 440cc injectors @ 3bar already, the engine seems to work pretty well :)

Now thats intersting, I've got 440cc injectors and Dave had them at 90% to make 211bhp at 22psi, here's defo somit bloody funny going on
maybe you had less fuel pressure?
maybe you had less fuel pressure?
:scared: er, call me a prat but if the fuel pressure wasn't high enough, could that cause some form of misfire?

do you have a fuel pressure gauge in your car it could be dropping of at higher boost
maybe you're too rich
AFR's were spot on apprantly, I couldn't stay in the booth and watch as I'm having enough trouble breathing as it is without a shed load of exhaust fumes

No I don't but I'm now looking at some, any you recomend?
Wow, thats looking very interesting, you attending the RTOC day @ POD this year Glen?

spot on may be a matter of opinion, I have a feeling that Mr Walker is 'old school'. The AFR is on your dyno plots.

Oh wow! Thats amazing! Its stopped me posting a thread on "do i go volvo or EFI C1J"!
Is it your own craftman ship? Its amazing.... :)

He is abit like that yeah, according to the graph at 22psi at 2500rpm its 12.2 and by 7000rpm its at 10.6, sounds like rich to me but then I know feck all

there was i lot of hours on a cnc .its all billet alloy and as far as volvo or c1j theres only 1 cij on efi with adaptronic ecu and mapped by the mad sceintist:D oh yes

Could have an air leak on the inlet side? As it's richening up quite quickly upto a point...
Glen...that is uber impressive mate :agree:

Defo not an airleak, I had the manifold face of the head skimmed, new gasket, had the faces on the manifolds skimmed aswell, I even did the carb cleaner test, while the engine is idling spray carb cleaner around the manifold and listern out for any changes in engine speed, was spot on

Wonder what mine will make, as is all up and running but gear box is bolloxed.
I didn't mean anything was wrong, injectors flow more at higher pressure. Maybe your running less pressure that's y they are at more duty.
A carb spray test won't show any boost leaks, you need to do a pressure test to show that.
Very impressive work on the car.
Will b nice to see at a show.

that'll be pretty rich at 90% for only 210hp, assuming you don't have any fuel delivery problems.
I was about to say, have you checked the intercooler for leaks?
Stu didn't you once mention you found a few boost leaks when you thought you may have had just the 1 maybe 2? :)
I think I'll spend some time tomorrow checking again for air leaks and I'm gunna get an fuel pressure gauge so I can see whats going on there.
Anyway, bets I don't spam up Hi5's thread anymore than I have already.
Top work fella, keep it up

wow  looks and sounds amazing :niceone: top work
Looks spot on Glen:agree: Ill be down york easter weekend testing the van out, looking forward to seeing it in action.
Looks fantastic glen:smokin:
That manifold is a work of art, have you kept the cnc files if you were to ever make the manifold again......not that i need one but i think you will be getting some pm from people:D
Just out of interest do you have any pictures of the distributor blanking plate, as i would like to do this to Emma's car as it looks untidy with the old distributor still in situ after i went wasted spark.

Is that going to be the next group buy thread then?

You  but the amount of time it took me to make mine, i would happily pay for a manifold off the shelf. I also spent weeks contacting brakers in the us trying to get an alliance manifold but with no luck
Making the manifold is probably the hardest part of EFI on a gtt, we have scoff making timing sensor brackets and with these two parts it would take no time at all to do a conversion. The rest of the required parts are just standard parts that everyone uses to convert to efi.
If only this was two years ago:cry:

Oh I agree I just  cause I know we all love a group buy on here. I dare say to purchase something off the shelf to that finish would demand quite a nice price though but then as you say it takes alot of the work of the equation.
 Not for long i hope ;)
Steve from york has a C1J running Adaptronic, completed a couple of years back I think ? As is his Dad's T2, which we completed last year.

Dont p**s on my bonfire ! Personally, i think its the way to go! The cost is a bit higher than just sticking a Volvo lump in though!

Looking reali good mate.. keep up the gd work... Hopeully mine will be on EFI this year too, so chop chop get some mainfolds made cause that's what I'm stuck on lol :D well and cash...

I had mine on efi a few years back too. The manifold was a bit of a pig, but can be done with relative ease. I suppose it depends on how far you want to go with it.

Agreed a manifold isn't really that difficult... but getting the design right is imo.
I've had a rough quote from bog bros and they reckon they can knock me one up for £250 to £300, but will it work is the big question???
I've got something else in the pipeline but am waiting for the design :D

i thinking about making 2 more have to see what time i have :)
me and the mad sceintist were out last night, remapped the car at 24psi of boost:smokin: oh yes, its like a train. a big thanks to scoff for is time and effort :)
