Has anybody ever heard of a torsion bar weakening on one side? I guess the torsion bar is basically a big spring or summat.

My car is sitting higher on one side. I want it to be the shock as thats a cheap fix.

What you guys think?

maybe if the torsion bar has been removed at one point it hasn't been put back right? it would only have to be one tooth out and one side will be lower or higher than the other.

I thought it was a long str8 bit of metal?

the 5 has 2 torsion bars kenobi that meet in the middle i.e it looks like one long bar but its actually 2 iirc so in theory you lower the 2 sides independantly so it is possible to lower one side more than the other.

Probably worn shockers causing it.

The car has covered 32000 miles. i suspect the suspension is original.

I think i will hunt some rear shocks and see if that remedies it b4 I spend serious money.

if you lower the car is possible that one torsion bar wasn't put the same like the other one

jack it up remove the shocks and have a measure from the wheel arch to the centre of the hub on both sides if one is lower than the other it has prob just been adjusted wrong.

theres a few threads on ere how to do it but simplified you-
take the little plastic cap off the torsion bar (just in front of the rear wheel under the sill)
you will see a bar with a hole in it which needs to be pulled out enough to move the arms freely
spray it with lots of wd40
to pull it out you need a bolt to screw into the hole a bit of tube (exaust ect...) big washer and a nut
you wana put the nut on the bolt put the washer on after, put the bolt through the tube and screw it into the torsion bar use the nut to pull the bolt and torsion bar out.
like i said it is explained on hear and prob explained a lot better lol
