tattoo font, Im a noob

ok so i want a tattoo on my arm, like abover the wrist on the inside up to my elbow.

Itsa girls name harriet and i want a rose underneath it laying horizontal beneath the name.

My worry is not the pain but explaing what it is i want.

Does anyone know any fonts or something that tattoo artists use?

I would be ace if i could take a printout with me and say "THIS"

it will be my 1st and ONLY tattoo.

Usually they would try to draw it on tracing paper 1st & then transfer it to you, well most of the ones I've had have done this.... so you would be able to say if you liked it before you went to ink.....
Or just tyr to draw it best you can so they have an idea of what you mean & then pick a font when there.

i have seven now getting another in the summer same place as yours.

oh and im gettin married in america in 2012 and the misses is getting me a portrate of me lad tattoed nicley on my leg.

I'd have thought you'd be best off actually booking a session with a tattoo artist - You'd be surprised how they take take badly described ideas and put them onto paper. You could end up with a really awesome memorial tatt :agree:

Its actually a bit daunting, i've walked passed the shop loads, the woman that work there (they are all girls) are super hot but its all like goth and it scares me.

Theres like a fish tank that you can look through to see tattos being done im told.

My wife has quite a few tattos and she says Im too much of a girl to have a tat. :laugh:

If you really want it done then the courage will come from somewhere. Maybe it'll arrive once you have a sketch in hand that will soon become reality as at the moment, it's just an idea :)

nothing to be scared of it stings for 2-3 mins then goes num and you dont rearly feel it i love getting them.

it only hurts when they do outlining as the needle is thin and scratches..

get it done!!!

Quick question, not aimed at you but anyone with portraits, having never had ink, if you get a picture of your son/ daughter do you go back later on in life and get them to age it? :cartman: obviously they are not going to stay that age for ever, or are you going to be 50 and walking around with a 6 yr or whatever old on your arm/leg??/?

just go in there mate they`ll have a good idea of what size font will look good on that part of the arm!!! it is abit para the 1st time you go in for a tattoo mind.... :laugh:

It varies depending on how good the artist is. Custom pieces are always gonna cost more as you book by the hour, seeing it's you're first they'll probably say two hours as they won't kno if you'll sit well and an hour might not be enough. Expect between 40 - 80 £/hour for a good artist, like most things in life you get what you pay for.

Definatly and when it comes to tatoos make sure you check out there work beforehand. most places will have a portfolio of stuff they have done, i only trust photos of the actual tatto of seeing it in person, its one thing to draw a design on a bit of paper but theres an art to getting that design on to skin. dont be afraid to check out a fue places cus its gunna be on you forever.

As has been said above, for God's sake, make sure you do some serious research into the artist of your choice, before letting them loose on your skin. Don't be tempted to use someone 'because they're cheaper than so and so'. And find someone who specialises in the subject that you're after. You can have someone who's amazing at realism, but they're not too good at text. There are so many bad tattoo's out there it's unbelievable. See here for too many examples:
