ok I know have a collection of Turbos.

A few standard t2s a Td04 and A T28rs.

Im no expert though and I only know the names of these turbos becasue somone has pointed at them and said thats a T whatever.

I've done a bit of a search on here but im none the wiser.

How do i identify what I have in front of me?

Is there a list of serial numbers sumwhere?

also do all garret turbos have garret written on them?

all garret turbos have a small plate right next to the oil inlet which tells you what turbo its is

Turbo Technics don't sell new copies, they are a Garrett supplier

they dont supply only rebuild old turbos and if they did send a new turbo by garrett it will be from www.owendevelopments.co.uk (http://www.owendevelopments.co.uk/) or www.btnturbo.com (http://www.btnturbo.com/) who are the only 2 suppliers in the uk

when i said copy i was meaning like the 1's you get of ebay as there are companys out there that does copy a garrett turbo

So is this turbo no good?

JRP, Adam works at Turbo Developments :agree:

Kenobi, no it is still sellable, but copies are worth so little in comparison. Adam said you could probably ask for about £150 for that particular turbo should it all work okay :)

WOW, That sucks. I was told it was worth 3 times that. Its supposed to be a GT28rs.

I bought what I thought was a GT28RS for my old 200sx from ebay and it blew up immediately after the first time it spooled up. Turn out to be a copy made in china.

:crap:

Adam says you'll have more luck with a copy journal bearing than a copy roller bearing.

Have you got a picture of the core?

I see you've mastered the technique of reading from the Garrett website, well done.

Good luck trying to buy from BTN when you're not a trade company, and Owen Developments won't be polite to you either. To be honest, you can probably buy brand new items cheaper from every other company listed in the UK if they've got it on the shelf as both above companies charge a fairly substantial amount.

Turbo Technics actaully supply very little nowadays. They were very close to administration 2 years ago, which not many people know. A long story cut short, they've changed owners a few times and are now more involved in supplying balancing machines to the wolrdwide market.

They're not "fakes" as such. They're copies - Not posing as the genuine thing. People DO buy them but they are generally cheaper and of a far lesser quality.

Yeah, a friend of mine ran 368bhp at the wheels on a CA18det with a "attempted turbo". They're not all bad. :D

Jesus H Christ! "Attempted turbo", I think Adam receives a lot of those at work. I regularly get texts with photos of what are apparently supposed to be turbos, some are quite funny

Fun.

I was quite lucky with my episode... after my dud turbo blew, I had it verified to be a copy, then phoned my bank, explained the situation and they reversed the payment straight away. £259 saved.

:)
