Exactly what I was thinking, rid of the cap, the bumper and bring her mostly back to standard.

I paid £1100 for mine, has had a few engine mod's (pace chargecooler etc).
Not many nice ones around at the moment aye? Some nice tungsten ones on pistonheads tho but about it?

my old one was black spent 10k and cant find it on road now , standard five looks spend doh on suspension and brakes then cooling copper core rad low temp fan switch uprate boost pipes , do anything and everything before you up the boost trust me, ,i had three piece clutch and 160 bhp and ran 14 sec 1/4 miles, (no back seats though) neve let me down once

Wow, bet that was a tasty R5. 10k,

Seems like alot of R5's are stuck in garage's now, shame really.
Well the suspension is adjustable but brakes are standard.

I am going to aim for about 170-180hp ideally, be an ongoing
drivable project. I imagine a new copper rad would be an idea then
although I have fitted a low temp fan switch and my temps are
really good atm, never gets even close to overheating.

Hmm, well cheers for the advice, I hadnt really considered the rad or
brakes but seem obvious now you say it, 160bhp? Did it feel a load
faster than standard?.

14 secs, nice, think i'l take mine to a 1/4 mile sprint sometime when the
boost is upped, if the club arranges events like that?

it was a club event at santa pod also done track day with club back then , yeah was masivley faster had t2 hybrid turbo aswell and group a carb , uprated head gasket , was evil machine around town but no guts after 100mph depends what you want , ,bigger t25 turbos boost up 3k-3.5k rpm mine came on at 1800rpm but dropped off at 5000rpm , if you do alot of b road motorway driving a bigger turbo is better, dont get a dump valve tho and get induction kit . . . oh and exhaust i ha enlarged elbow downpipe and 2.5 inch straight through pipe with 4 inch back box , cost £800

Best advice for new members, take a look in the articles section, gives you lots of advice, and take a look at the 1/4 mile leader board, its there you'll see the people who know what there doing, take a look at there profiles and what they have to say. Good luck with your 5, dont turn your boost pressure up till you've read how to it just ends up in tears. :) Imo best thing to get right first are suspension/steering components, remove any play from worn items, it'll transform the way it drives.
