hi just measured the valve lift on my engine and it was 8.5mm so do you guys think its the
cat5500320 at 8.425mm
or
piper 270 at 8.716
it was tricky setting the 0 rocking the car back and forth but its within half a mm the reading. or could it be another cam not listed in the wizard?? also the valve springs have 6 thick coils are they standard or do standard springs have 6 coils??

what is standard at 8.2 mm is there 2 different cams or timed differently?? if my timing was out slightly would the valve lift be different??

No lift wouldn't be different just when the valve opened would be different

2 different standard cams that I've measured, may be more than that.

so is that saying there will be standard r5 gt with different power?? could it not be that the cams you have measured have been reprofiled?? so if my cam lift is 8,5 mm does that mean it will be good for the 20 psi boost on my t25 thanks for the input

PH1 115HP
PH2 120HP
no, neither of those cams had been reprofiled.

on the cam wizard it shows for std phase 2 lift of 7.4 mm so how cum some are 8.2mm? does this mean the std ones at 8.2mm will be as good as the cat cam one or the ktec one?? why would renault make 2 different cams for the same phase cars?

forget that comment just seen the 8.2mm one on the cam wizard!!! so how much difference does 0.2 mm lift make which the cat cam one is from a standard phase 2 cam?? seems like no point fitting a cam just for 0.2mm or even piper 270 at 0.5mm .

Also you got to remember performance cams normally have different overlap and durations to the standard cam so that will affect the overall performance gain over standard mate. Its not just the lift. ;)

Best way to tell is to take it out of measure every aspect of the cam, lift, duration, overlap, timing of cam.
I know Andy Cooke has measured a few in his time, he'll be able to explain better than me on how to do it.
I honestly can't remember how many coils a standard spring has, i got few in the garage but need to hunt round for them to find out.

no rush mate, i will get it set up and power run it see what bhp i get and if not happy will check what cam it is and change it. could fitting a new vernier or timing it differently make a difference in power?? as i heard you can set up the piper 285 differently to make it msm.

standard springs are red, or probably brown in an old engine, Piper ones are black.

these ones are definately black and clean not red or brown, they have 6 coils but could some new standard ones not o.e be black?? anyone know how many coils the standard ones have??
