ive never done a thread in here before and cant really be arsed to go through it all again.
i might copy and paste some details from another site.

here it is as it sits now.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/stu21t/IMG_0479.jpg

the engines back out,
just for some cleaning, painting, rewiring.
i cant afford the stuff i wanted to do to it, due to some jobs cancelling on me in these ****ty times.

i need a new waterpump as this ones packed up,
gunna get a std exhaust cam for it,
and some general tidying up.
so nothing exciting really.

not exactly much room to work,

:cool: top job:agree::agree::agree:

just out of interest how does it handle around corners, any large amounts of under/oversteer??? arse end happy??

my rear engined beast should be done in a few more months:laugh:

stu21t
23-02-2010, 19:15
it handles just fine m8,
ive not had it on track yet, but its done plenty of spirited road driving and i havent found the limits yet.
i would expect to this summer tho. lol

there is still a fair bit of weight in the front of mine, especially with all the fluids in there.

newbstar*
23-02-2010, 20:24

stu21t
23-02-2010, 21:56
i plan on doing a few more crazy conversions in the near future, but not to the same spec as this. its just toooooo expensive.

it is very fun taking it out.
theres a few of us round here with powerful cars that just go out to play, but never some up against a proper supercar, there is a porsche 911 turbo and a lambo gallardo around here i wanna meet on the road.

firstchoicegary
23-02-2010, 21:58

Would love to see it on track, or even have a passenger ride round ??

Looks like top work, old beemer looks nice too!

stu21t
23-02-2010, 22:21

firstchoicegary
23-02-2010, 22:38
i dont think that car has flesh, bones or blood. . just pure muscle , :agree::wasntme:
back 5 years ago or so a rear engined five with a five engine was enough but some of you out there are on another level , who needs a new car when you can have cult car looks and super car performance. .im so jealous i can pretty much build you a house but cant find find my way round an engine bay!!!!

stu21t
23-02-2010, 22:41
i started the build 5 years ago. lol
its been on the road for 3.

and i can build a house to. lol that might even be my next project.
build a triple garage/workshop in my back garden to play in.
then start on the next car

firstchoicegary
23-02-2010, 22:44
good man!! stick to car builds though . .y not do a clio williams with five engine in rear??? would it upset handling???

stu21t
23-02-2010, 22:47
i dont think im gunna do another mid engined build,
next 1s gunna be front engine rwd.
prob wont be a small car either, i prefer a bigger car.
wont be for at least a year tho, i wanna get this 1 a bit further along before starting another.

plus wanna sell 1 or 2 others 1st.

firstchoicegary
23-02-2010, 22:49
good luck then im off to bed , i kp look out for any of ya posts get some rear vies vis of 911's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

car.crash
23-02-2010, 22:51
amazing build!
out of interest what does it drive like compared to std. does it handle and drive ok with a light front. looks very well set up.

stu21t
23-02-2010, 22:54
as its mid engined not rear, the weight distribution is very good
and as theres a lot of weight at the front with the big rads full of water and petrol tank there, it holds the front down quite well.
i have been told tho, that when i launch hard it does lift the front wheels off the ground. lol but ive never seen that.

it does feel like its got power steering to.

Point taken, but you still didnt answer my question stu. We have all spent loads of money on all our 5's over the years ,and thats me doing the work too! If i was to add up what i spent on my 5,s, it would cost more or less the same as putting a cossie engine in the back in the first place.:coffee:

a million pounds then, anyone so lucky to be able to do work on there own cars to such a high standard is highly comendable, i can do basics but the things you guys can do must save a fortune in garage labour costs. :)

Pmsl
in the 5 yrs I've had it I've spent around £30k in parts, lots of that is mates rates to, no labour as I've done 99% myself.
I know a company that does builds like this, he recons around £15k in labour to copy it. If you supply the car and the parts.

how it sits now.

just before the start of show seaon and the fun that comes with it and ive stripped it to the bones. lol

gearbox is out to be stripped, inspected, cleaned and repainted.
rear suspension is off for a cleanup
drive shafts need cv joints repacking and cleaning then paint

ive also done some more welding and paneling to the engine covers to seal it better, and done a load of cleaning/painting already.

hopefully i will get it back together soon, its booked to go on a stand at the rsoc central day in the middle of april so i better get a move on.

Where the hell did you find an RS200 space frame!?! That is just the ultimate.. I'd love to turn my engine round the same direction..
I can see the space frame fixes to the cage..Does it also bolt to the original rear subframe/beam mountings?
Awesome car!

stu21t
31-03-2010, 12:14
Is not a genuine RS200 spaceframe, but an exact replica.
2 bars come down from the top of the rollcage hoop, onto the top of the spaceframe, 1 bolt each
2 big metal plates are boxed onto the front corners of the subframe and they bolt to 2 box sections fixed to the middle of the car near the rear jacking points, 2 bolts per side.
and 2 more plates at the rear of the subframe bolt to a box section at the back of the car inside the bumper. 4 bolts per side.

So 14 bolts in total.
I can circle the bits in the pics tonight.

c7borg
31-03-2010, 13:10
that would be much apprecaited.. did you have a rs200 frame to copy or did you base it on pictures?.. I'd really like to do this with mine but with just a lowly 172 engine ;) it must improve the balance and handling no end!

stu21t
31-03-2010, 18:32
its a kit you used to be able to buy but i dont think they do them anymore. just made smaller to fit in the 5 shell. lol

it does make it mid engined and almost all of the weight is in the middle of the car.
you would have to pretty much start again to get this in yours tho.
i will be up at a few meets soon so come have a look.
im hoping to get it taxed and motd a week sat.

stu21t
16-04-2010, 09:07
bad new peeps.
i got the car running on sunday
got it all back together on monday and went for a test drive on tuesday and it broke. lol

the cam cover gasket blew between the cams and spark plugs resulting in this
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/stu21t/IMG_0518.jpg

the oil ran out of the fronnt and back breather holes of the cam cover, and onto the cambelt and flywheel
meaning the whole ****ing thing is now dripping in oil.

and then i lost all gears, it popped out of reverse while i was parking and then i couldnt get any gears.
im hoping the oil has caused the clutch to stick to the flywheel.

lets hope i can get it back together quick enough to get it mot'd on saturday for central day on sunday

other than that it was ok.

stu21t
16-04-2010, 09:08
thats me done for the night
found a few problems.
the spline on the clutch centre plate was all burred up, so i had to file that down so it was all clean.

also i have a small metal adaptor that goes in the back of the crank where the pilot bearing goes, that adapts the renault un1 box to fit.
that had clearance probs so ive grinded that down for more room.

then sanded and cleaned the clutch cover, plate and flywheel.

now the clutch and box are all back in and bolted up.

tomorow i will get the hydraulics back in and bled, exhaust back on, and as long as the gasket turns up i will do the camcover and get it back out for another test drive.
