ok peeps, just done half an hour of searching through the forum but can't find all the details I need.

What parts are need to fit a 215mm flywheel and clutch to an R5 GTT?

I know I need a 215mm flywheel and that'd it would need redrilling to suit the C1J crank and a 215mm clutch plate and cover but what else is needed?

will it fit in a standard R5 GTT gearbox or will I need somit else?

Will the GTT starter need changing or are the flywheel teeth the same?

at a guess you'd be better off making the clutch fit the standard flywheel, I'm pretty sure the bigger flywheel will clash with the C1J to gearbox mounting bolts.

gearbox wise u wont have a problem, ive got a gt turbo box on my volvo engine with gtt starter

unsure about the fitment to the c1j crank tho.

the flywheel itself are the same physical size. as fare as im aware mate

i could have a measure up tonight if u like?

That'd be awesome mate cheers:agree::agree::agree:

Fitting to the crank won't be a problem, my local machine shop can filkl existing holes and redrill it to suit the C1J crank.

You having the flywheel lightened and balanced while it's off? :)

My standard GTT item already is L&B, as for the possible 215mm flywheel, makes sense to get it done while its getting redrilled

Does the crank have to be balanced with the new flywheel?

ill put that 1 next to a ctm flywheel i have off the c1j and try an get some good photos of it with a ruler.

i cud come to think of it see if it bolts up to a crank y im at it

In an perfect world you should but having them balanced seperatly is better than how they left the factory.

Because I'm having no end of trouble with the volvo job slipping with the amount of power mine is making and should be making once fully mapped.

I could use a 200mm 4 paddle job but I've found them to be horrible when engaged and not suitable for road use at all.

I'm thinking a 6paddle 215mm job cus a 6 paddle will engage abit smoother and take the kind of power I'm after without any problems and I fevery decide to go for more power it should deal with that without any further mods.

The volvo flywheel bolt pattern is different to the C1J pattern, just need to know if it'd fit inside a normal GTT box.

oh i get ya
6 puk paddle isnt going to be cheap i bet.
which 1 would u go for buy chance?

im having a good feel from my clutch at the moment, just a standard 215mm an she holds well, havnt given it enuf long term stick to realy test tho.

im sure it will be the first thing to let me down :(

I can get a 6 paddle 215mm 4 only 20quid more than a 4 paddle 200mm

Is it not worth looking in to the pressure ratings of the cover rather than just going bigger on the friction plate, see what else is available other than the volvo cover?

didn't you have a problem with the 172 flywheel hitting the GTT dowels?

Yes you do , you just move the dowels. Heres a pic of my 215 6 paddle. Seems to hold well with the volvo valeo cover.

This is a helix plate and not too cheap.

I've thought about that, the 4 paddle Helix jobs I've had haven't slipped but they have destroyed the centre splines, mostly I think down to how hard they bite on take up, that also makes them horrible to use on the road. The Helix uses the same cover plate as the volvo 480T 200mm clutch so its not the cover thats the problem, its the material the friction plate is made from.

Excellent, just what I needed to know, now what about the ring gear for the starter? is it the same pattern? will the dowel in the starter need shifting?

Yeah had to remove both locating dowels on the gearbox to mate it with the f4r lump.

You will also need the starter motor to match the flywheel matey gtt one will be no good

Also to note matey you will not need the locating dowel with an f series starter

Are ok, thought you ment the slipping was a problem, just if id have a slipping clutch issue id be looking at pressure plate rates more so than the spinner itself... :)

so what locates the C1J in the right position if you do that?

i have a 215mm helix pressure plate and six paddle clutch fitted to my c1j flywheel.
to make it fit take the three orignals dowels off the flywheel spin the pressure plate into a new position so you can mark new holes to re drill and thread and mark your new dowels points use some roll pins as your dowels and then get your flywheel lightened and balanced again with the pressure plate fitted.
fitted on my car for the last twelve months still not slipping and thats from santa pod lanching off the line :D

As rob (turbo ted) says, thats the easiest way by far :)

All of the flywheels are the same outer diamater by the way, so all fit into any JB or JC gearbox without problem.

FWIW, the AP 4 paddle with valeo cover was ok on my car, no slipping & felt nice to use.
My car was running 24 psi manifold & did loads of runs on pod day with no slipping etc..

Are you sure? I have a feeling that the F series flywheels are 'slightly' larger than the C1J, explains why starters don't really swap over, and James couldn't spin his 172 engine when he left the C1J dowels in place.

Always sure :D The number of teeth on the starter ring can variy, and so the number of teeth on some F starter pinions can differ to the C, but the flywheel's have the same overall diamater. Only the bolt pattern is different between C & F. Hub is the same from memory.

Right time to dig out my spare flywheel then
