View Full Version : Gay Clio temperature problems.

My missus has a 03 plate Clio 1.2 16v thats recently developed some strange problems with the temp.
Started a couple of week back when she came home and said the temp had just gone up and heaters went cold. She pulled over allowed it to cool then came home.
Sure enough when i checked, Coolant was non existant! :rolleyes:
Topped her up bled it and all seemed fine!
However since then the temp keeps dropping? It used to sit bang on the half way mark on the gauge and never move. Now it gets to half way then keeps dropping down a couple of marks then back up again but never above half way!:scratch:

Also since then i don't know if its a coincidence and is totally unrelated but it also has developed a strange ticking noise when revved lightly. Not an engine tappet sort of noise but something similar. When listening and feeling the engine the noise can be felt through this pipe shown in the pic.

water pump ?? thermosat ?? , has it got any leaks ?? headgasket ok ??

Can't find any leaks.
Checked oil filler cap and has slight cream but water in header tank seems fine.
No steam/smoke from exhaust so without a test dunno about headgasket.
Think i'll change thermostat anyway for what it costs.
Gonna change water pump soon when the cam belts done as thats overdue too! :dearme:

I'm not a mechanic but i do try to get stuck in so bare with me. :ashamed:

Temp sender will play with the gauge making it up and down like a yoyo

Will also make idle up and down too

The pipe your pointing at is the evap canistor pipe, it does click when operating. (well the pipe doesnt click but the solenoid operating the valve does)

Oh right, Well not really had any issues with the idle & the temp gauge never goes above half way?
Any way of checking the sender?

Wondering if an air lock could be making the temp wander?

Sorry, not on idle only when revving.
