Right guys, just wondering how many miles i should be getting to a full tank of petrol, roughly speaking, doing most traveling on 40to 60 miles an hour roads. c1j with Standard boost (o.5 bar @ manifold, standard t2, standard carb). Just a rough estimate please

Ricardo

43 litres main tank capacity, 7 litres auxillary tank capacity

50 litres is 10.99 gallons

Fill the tank, trip the meter and work out the mpg

350 miles sound too unreasonable for a tank? How much is 95RON nowadays? It's been 2months since i tanked up  :D

TrixNFlix
11-02-2010, 19:08
Well 350 seems quite alot, 95ron is about 108p. Brimmed the tank and have got about 100 miles on half a tank, granted there has been a fair bit of spirited driving in that. :D.How accurate are the fuel gauges on the gtt, as when i filled it up last time it was telling me there was only a quarter of a tank in, but i could only fit in another 22 litres.

last time I did an economy test of it did 42mpg:D

Then again I was cheating and using EFI:D

My old R5's were 2nd cars so i didn't mind pumping £20 in every now and then to give it a boot full. I'd take it out once a week round the B roads for an hour, scare myself then put it back on the driveway :D

Kris, I have a 20 litre tank and fill it to the brim before a race. At Brands in a 15 minute race we do 15 laps (15 miles) and theres not a lot left:(

kin'ell, petrol must be expensive round your end... I could only ever squeeze £45.00 tops in mine and always returned 260 - 280 miles :)

11-02-2010, 22:40
Best i have done is 320 miles in mine off boost all the time and motorway 70mph. Quite chufted. Think the carb needs a clean now as it drinks!

orange one does 180miles to a tank, but that lasts 6 months

As you can imagine at 20psi, the range is significantly reduced...my lead right foot doesn't help either...:p

I've never worried about mpg...I have regularly seen over 300miles to a full tank in mine...not bad for an ancient engine :D

TrixNFlix
15-02-2010, 08:39
Right just worked out my mpg, and works out about 23.6353617 mpg :D
Is this acceptable? Also when I went to fill up, the gauge was showing between empty and a quarter, when abouts does the reserve tank come into play? I know it holds 7 litres. Could only get 33.66 litres into the tank too.

On the motorway, constant ish speed, getting on for 400 miles to a tank in old whitey.

When the light comes on. You can here the pump chucking the fuel into the main tank.

Bill were when abouts does this come into play on the fuel gauge, when it's showing zero?

Near enough, but the gauge will raise again slightly when the fuel is transferred, then the light will go out. When the light comes on permanently it's definitely time to fill up, as "you're on vapour Cougar!" :D

I put £30 a week in the phase 1 and do around 200 miles. Based on £1.20ltr price thats 25ltrs or 5.5 gallon to do 200 miles- 36mpg.
Thats driving like a stole it (just ask bric, lol) at 14psi at 11.8afr

Right my brain likes to create senarios. What would happen if I went into my reseve tank, and this got used up completely and all I had on me was a jerry can with 5 litres in. Would the car be able to be driven with those 5 litres?:rolleyes:

15-02-2010, 22:47
On a run i can get 350 on a full tank in the tungy, mixed driving. Boost 14 psi & 2nd stage modded.

I reckon fiddling with the jetting could make it even more economical off boost.

The van does roughly 300-350 on a tank, steady driving only. On boost it drinks the fuel:laugh:
