they will be sold on a first come first served basis .

as a "GIFT" and pm me your delivery address on here as it wont

as my doors are out at the moment , i have been looking into
getting some new pins and bushes in there to fix the "droppy door"
syndrome . finally located some pin and brass bush kits .

as far as i understand these brass bushes are whats fitted to the
doors from the factory to take the wear so that the hinges dont take
the damage , once the bushes and pins wear out you get
droppy doors .

here is a picture of the kit to cover 1 door .

Am I correct in thinking that these only fit the later 5GTT hinges?

And that would also apply to the 9 and 11?

if you got torx pins looking from the top of the hinge you got
the setup in the top picture .
the other type is a split pin similar to these.

also had a quick go removing the old bushes on my car today .

best way to get the old ones seem to be a round/flat ended chisel
(2-3mm diameter ) and a hammer . to get the bottom bush i stick the
chisel from the top and find its edge to gently tap it out with the hammer.
opposite for the top bush obviously .

will have a decent go tomorrow as i will have more time .
try to take better pics to describe it .
here is old vs new , they are worn to fokkk , you put a new pin
in one of the old ones and the slack in it becomes obvious

are no bushes to take the wear .

good question . anyone on here have the old type door hinges
that can get me some measurements ?

Ian S
21-02-2010, 13:28
IIRC, no you can't, simply because the newer door hinges are much wider so that can take the bushes.

The old ones are too thin to have enough spare metal left once drilled out.

Someone did make some sleves for the old ones. 8mm OD, 7mm ID. 'Just' drill out the old hinge to 8mm, drift in the sleeve, fit a new OE roll pin.

But don't pay US$80 for the 4 pins though!! :sad2:

thats true . i think the thickness of the bushes for the new type is the
same as the thickness of the older style pins .

however the hinges on the doors can be changed to new style ones ,
the hinges on the car chassis will take the bushes and it should
work in theory .

Schakal

Can you explain more what you mean about "cut the hinges from the middle".

Thanks.

Do you mind if I add this to the existing article on door hinges?

i cant reply to my "droppy door fix thread" :crap:
what i mean is the hinges coming out from the chassis as per below picture .

http://www.rtoc.org/boards/picture.php?albumid=962&pictureid=10436

using one of these on an angle grinder/die grinder etc .
(you get better access for cutting front door ones ,once the wings are out )

http://www.yan-mo.com/en/userdata/image/501/20080123115648105_Resinoid_Cutting_Disc.jpg

and once the door is off its easier to remove rounded/rusted pins .
than you can weld the bits you chopped back ,grind the welds down
to flat etc etc .

i cant reply to my "droppy door fix thread"

That's because it's now in the articles section. Miller moved it there. :) Only now you're prevented from adding to it.

Anything from this thread can be moved over though.

ok.. I have the new pins and bushes..... but they look much larger than anything i have on my door.... does this mean i have the old type right? :(

Is there anything i can do about my door? its so bad it wont shut anymore! :( does it mean i need a new door or I have to source the pins for it??? i really dont know much about this door stuff!

i would say 95% same with only having seen the older type split
pin once . to convert the doors to new style you would need to
cut and weld from other doors (possibly from clio , r9 , r11 ,r19 ,r5 )
or get new door hinges and bolt/weld them on .

what year is your car ?? pictures would help also

Sounds like you have the old style roll pins. Either drill the pins out & fit a bigger pin, or shim the worn hinge part on the car & fit new o.e sized pins, easy enough to do.

Slim

My car is a D reg... but its the same as my brothers which is an F plate :S

Brigsy... i would need new pins then... but the older pins are apparently much harder to get hold of and much more expensive ...

how about fitting just the pins (above) without the bushes??? will that fit :ashamed:

Brigsy
27-02-2010, 18:04
I doubt the bushes will fit with the old pins mate, easy enough to try when in bits though.

I cant see the old style knock in roll pins being expensive, i bought some from renault a few yr back & they were pennies! There only bog std 7mm roll pins iirc, not exactly special order stuff like the later torx fittings.

Search the boards, there was a topic on shimming the mounts that are attatched to the car, far easier than cutting/welding hinges off the door imo. Somebody even knocked up a batch of shims, i got a set here :)

Slim
27-02-2010, 18:12

i might have a set of older style pins i can part ex with you
seeing that you bought those from me .
but in the long run its always best to convert your doors to
later style . the reason renault done this is because as well
as the pins , insides of the hinges were getting worn on older style imo .

Changed the bushes and pins on my car the other day and it now shuts perfect. Thanks Schakal.

The only problem I had was getting the top bushes out, but once they're out you can just knock the bottom one down pretty easy, I used a screwdriver and it came straight out.

Cheers. :)
