View Full Version : starter motors
does anyone no what make, year and model these uprated starter motors come off, there smaller in size than the original but are more powerful. ive heard they come off a laguna but dont no???
p.s' my startin problem was down to an intermitant starter motor even tho its a brand new one not a recon, so its goin back on warrenty so am gona change for above when i no what to get.
IMO i wouldent bother, the "uprated" starters are no better than the OE ones. Alot of people have had them pack up when exposed to heat from the exhaust downpipe. Get yourself a new valeo ( or similar) on there :)

thought the uprated one was just off a 19 or clio 16v?
I've always used a new oe starter motor, no probs :agree:

i find neither last with no heat shield and more boost and larger turbos.. wrap the down pipe and make sure you have one or make something to keep it out of harms way..
my 5 is the only car i ever had a starter go and not just one, im sure its 3 or 4..
I found I can use an F7R one on my F4R Turbo, used that and an F7P one.
Also, in my opinion...extra earths help the starter motor.
Might also be worth considering the little enhancement Ian S has written up about in the article section for the starter motor :)

how much are those new? :)
also dont forget the little bracket on the end of the starter that bolts it to the back of the block. Acts as a much better earth for the motor rather than having to earth through an aluminium gearbox :)

one thing i've found, and this may be of use..
the GSF uprated starter, listed for the GTT has one too many teeth....

interesting, i thought that was just a support bracket...never had one fitted before but then ive never had starter motor issues :D

Don't kow what they are new, I picked refurbed one for £30.
Much better than the £200+ for the f4r t one.
