for some reason i seam to have a knocking on the passinger side rear brake when braking lightly. if i put my foot right down it dose not make the sound. disk is not warped and has the little L shaped metal pice in place. any ideas and is there only 1 lshaped pice or should there be two.

Just the one L shaped bar. Fitted at the bottom of the pads.

i recently had a similar problem ended up loosing a rear pad on the m4
i believe as well as the L shaped metal piece you got to have a little clip to
hold that in place .

also there are supposed to be 2 anti rattle springs on each side .
mine were missing hence the pad fell of even though the L shaped
bit was there

Are these L shape parts available from Renault?, I could do with a couple as i'm quite sure they are worn and knocking a little.

If I remember rightly rob, you can get them as part of a refurb kit from Renault.

You can get the metal l shaped bits in a rear brake pad fitting kit as far as i remember, as well as the anti rattle springs etc..... Have u checked that your disc isnt cracked at all?

How much meat is left on the pads? Have u tried taking pads out and refitting?

Run a DTI on your disc.... it mite be so lightly warped you cant feel it on the peddle ....

Mine done this. After replacing the caliper it stopped. I would assume the piston was worn and was juddering along as the brake pedal was pressed.

I also had a knocking / scrapping noise from my O/S rear brake, checked out and couldn't see anything wrong so changed discs and pads made no difference. Changed the pressure regulating valve and the noise stopped so not sure why it was doing it but it stopped it :)

check for rear axle bush wear......

if its worn the torsion bar can KNOCK the centre of the bush......difficult to see with car jacked up as the bar moves when the arm lowers.....

see if you can see if the torsion bar has been hitting the trailing arm bush...it will be very clean or even through to shiny steel if its been hitting

paul what is the best way to have a look at the bushes on the rear as i have looked at everything else. might just get some new disc and see if that cres it. as it only dose it while lightley braking. when you brake heavy its fine.
