First post!

Hi I thought I had better introduce my little project!
She's my 10th renault 5 and ive had everything from a 5 campus in gold to an electric blue phase 1 to a tungy phase 2.:D

Its James willdays ex car which was bought for a paltry sum in a sad state.

Its a complete bare shell rebuild, fully seam welded chasis cage etc etc.

Not quite up to Dannys spec but she'l do me!

Welcome to the club Charlene!

That car's certainly got some history in this club, nice that you've managed to keep the numberplate :niceone:

Whats the plan then, track, drag, show?

when you see pictures like that taken at shows you would never think in a million years they end up as a bare shell. It looked a minter,
Glad its seems to be in the hands of someone who is gonna put the effort back into it good luck keep the updates coming :)

wow, never even knew that car had been stripped? I assumed James still had it locked away in his garage somewhere?!? What happened to it along the way?

Like has been said It really has history in the club so its good to see its still around and being restored :agree:

I'll try to answer a few of your questions.
I dont own the plate and never have! James still has it on his RX7 as you quite rightly pointed out, but she will always be known to me as H8 NOS:).
I kept the plate for posterity. She is now H89 HEH as she was before.

I'm sure all the boys were wondering whether it's me doing all the work but I have to come clean and tell you that it's my other half. He's a race engineer that works on classic cars, mainly mk1 and mk2 escorts.

Some more about the car.

custom cages weld in cage, in the infamous Kawasaki green with gloss black interior.

The original europarts engine was scrap. The liners were warped the pistons were heavily pitted the crankshaft was scourred and the person who owned it before me did a bodge it and scarper DIY engine rebuild with silicone.

Paul at Exxon Race engines has done all the machining work, crank re-grind, new shells, fully balanced b end, flywheel faced, EP head was ok! new valve springs, new rods pistons and liners all balanced, block acid cleaned all clearances checked end float etc. All new Renault ancillaries oil pump chain tensioners.

Box re-built, retains gripper LSD, new specially made driveshafts 1 shortened to accomodate the diff.

New turbo from ATP in the states, full v band elbow and downpipe.

And thats as far as its got!

More news when there is some

Sounds like the car got into a right state then!

I know that engine had abit of a hard life, rememeber seing it being pulled apart at least once a month for piston/liner changes.

Will be good to see it out again, far play for taking it on looks like it will be a minter once its finished ;)

Hi its Paul, I've now taken on the project from Charlie as shes losing interest and because I'm funding it.

The race is on........ National day coming.

Trying toget my finger out as much as possible as I want to be out on the track, but progress is slowing as im waiting for bits. Pro alloy are making the tank and I could do with it in to pipe the fuel system up and to route the brake lines around it.
Cant really afford the dash display nxt month, so will have to wait to mock up the dash. The gear box has got a few isues so is being rebuilt at the mo.
Waiting on pistons, rods ARP bolts etc.
Anyway here's some more progress photos.

Two bloody years of nights and weekends to get it to this stage!
The paint is faultless I have even had the wheels painted then painted again because i wasnt happy... Guess you could say it is a labour of love.
Seats, fuel tank and bias valve should be here on friday so hopefully should have some more photos by monday (hopefully the Araldite will will have gone off on the arch fixings so I can take the cheesy masking tape off).
And in response to the question, I'm doing everything myself from the fab work to the paint prep, but my best mate is a painter so I let him loose in the booth.

Cheers for all the kind comments.

http://s887.photobucket.com/albums/ac76/paulmensley/Hello everyone sorry I did'nt make it to Mallory its been a busy year with the escorts but the season's now finished and the race cars have been rebuilt and mothballed till next year which has freed up some time.
I've built up the engine and now its installed so I took some pics.
Will get it running when the fuel lines are plumbed in and the electrics are sorted. Have a peek!

Hi to all, sorry about being away for so long, work and mk2 escorts seem to be taking over my life..... and my new toy!
http://www.rtoc.org/boards/attachment.php?attachmentid=12088&stc=1&d=1327235001

Ive managed to get some work done on the car, I'm just waiting on the dash, and my driveshafts to turn up and the electrician to finish making the loom.
I just need to tap up the guys at SFS for a set of hoses,
then dare I say it shes nearly there.
Will try and get some pics up later, for some reason it will only let me upload this one:confused:

I did see this, but was in hope he/she rejoined in another name or some thing? :(

I've gotten to page 4 of the project/restore pages now, so many started and only last a few post  but for the every so many failed ones I've seen, there a good one or two that go the distance like this.

Just a shame when reading it all only to get to the end to see another one had hit a dead end when all the hard parts had been done and only needed couple things to finish.
