Loving this car, such an awesome drive, thirsty but I can live with that.
Had a noisey diff , the usual 'donkey noise' so had the AYC fliud changed & that seems to have sorted that for now. Got lazy boost so new actuator next week to see if that sorts it, fingers crossed it does, then will fit a de-cat & maybe see about a remap & more boost.
As it sits it's got 18" speedlines, coilovers, HKS filter & BOV, front & rear braces, cat back mongoose exhaust & a half decent stereo in it.

Do like evos a lot, I may buy one when I flog the M3. The only thing thats worrieing is the 4500mile service interval:eek:

To be fair it's only really the AYC that needs doing regular by a pro, oil changes are a piece of pi55, as are plugs etc.

haha, yeah they really set it off, my mate likes it better than his mint 6 with 18" oz super t's :D
I love it, been wanting one for years & this came up on the cheap so couldn't say no.

The AYC oil is every other service (9,000 miles or annually). The servicing is relatively cheap at a specialist 'tuner', or so I keep trying to tell myself

It's just when things break, that they can cost big bucks!

They're awesome cars though. They remind me of a gtt in a way - They give you that same grin factor whenever you drive them. The thing that surprises me the most is that although they're big old cars, they feel a lot smaller to drive.

I'm loving your car in black Steve. Evo 5/6's in that colour are really growing on me . It'll never be as nice as my Icelle Blue though :p

I was looking at an evo8 fq mr340, if I was not worried about sevice history been kept up I would service it myself. Whats the cost of the 4500mile service roughley? Just for the stamp:crap:

Nice motor Steve. Evos are great cars for sure :agree:

Don't believe the shpiel about the regular ayc oil(s) change. Completely o.t.t.

The car in general is easy enough to service, even with the 3 different transmission oils! :D (or 2 if an RS diff is in situ)

i should have bought an evo years ago.
trouble is with the m3 i have no reason to play with it.
ive done a few bits and am happy with that.
with an evo i would always be doing stuff to it.
plus i dont know how happy an evo would b with my driving style lol.

very nice cars and im bound to end up with 1 at some stage.

I think RG Motorsport charge about £130 for a service - Parts and labour. The AYC oil change is about £50 on top of that.

I use MA Developments, because I can't be doing with all that getting my hands dirty malarky any more. They're bit more expensive, but Mark Shead is the only 'tuner' that I'd let anywhere near any of my cars (excluding PMT of course :D)

I'm waiting to hear back from Mitsi on the AYC ECU recall as mines an early 5 & it's been in the country since 99 !
Had irritating sqwuarking (how the fook do you spell that ) & the AYC fluid change has sorted the noise for now, diff did look a bit pi55 poor though, slight wobble to it :scared: :crap:
On the plus side I got the alarm fully working & found the cert for it, saved me shelling £300 on a new one.
It really does put a smile on my face like the old gtt used to.

I can't remember if the rear arms & lambda sensor was a recall jobby on the 5's as well, Steve? For sure they are on the 6, but it might be worth double-checking with Mitsy, just incase.

If the diff is on the way out, there's 2 options - Cheaper option is to refit an ayc diff/box (any 5-9 box will fit), or better, but more expensive, is to carry out the 'RS' conversion.

Some good info to be found on the MLR; that's if you can wade through the amount of c0cks & tuner ass-kissers on there.

Yes I found that out already... still will join though I think, £35 though, ouch !
Mitsi UK have nothing about my car being recalled, so I await a call from them after getting onto Japan I suppose??
If it goes I'd like an RS diff but we are looking at £1500 minimum, where I can get a 7 or 8 for £400-500 if I shop around.

Ok so bought some goodies.
got hold of an Evo 8 MR turbo, same spec as mine but single flapper as mine is FUBAR.
Stainless manifold (ebay special but looks ok actually, certainly as good as k-tecs lol)
Stainless de-cat & downpipe
Front ARB's
Greddy profec a boost controller
Then i'll have to look to see if the previous owner had a walbro fitted when the fuel pump was changed.. remap & 1.5 bar boost should see me to 350 bhp i think.

Defo get that manifold braced before fitting, if it isn't already, as those Ebay jobbies are very prone to cracking/leaking after a while.

Have to admit it looked quiet good quality no blind Chinese man welding and felt sturdy not like the ktec gtt manifold that looks like it's made of used bog roll tubes

That doesn't matter. It didn't cost the earth, and it wasn't from a tuner. Therefore, it's bound to be garbage

I hope it's all good though. I have heard that although a lot of them are crap, some are actually supposed to be pretty good

Yeah I've seen the group buys on there, some have to much money, whats the saying a fool & his money are easily parted.., you do get what you pay for most of the time but then a few middle of the road manifolds are prone to cracking so i've seen on various forums.. I had a cheeky bid on a 2fast2cool (although japspeed is stamped on it, aren't they a MLR trader) manifold & won it for £87, my cast one has cracks in it anyway so if it lasts a year it's a bonus. haha

I wanted a car that I could use every day, that's good out the box, because I don't want to get pulled down that tuning path again. Mine's running 1.1bar, and allegedly 350bhp, and it's a pretty quick car. OK, sometimes I think that it could do with a bit more, but NOPE, I will resist :wasntme:

Yep & thats all I want, it just needed a couple of things doing so it was rude not to add a few mods. 350bhp will do me lovely. I may keep £300 aside toward a diff or AYC pump though :scared:

Got mine pulling nice again now.. oddly the new actuator I had supplied was to long  I thought I'd swap the new one to the new turbo (2nd hand) & it was the same on there, I swapped the actuator off the new turbo to the unit on the car (luckily I hadn't taken it off yet) & half a hole preload, 1.1 bar boost peaking at 1.2 & dropping off to a bar = :smokin:
So now I have an 8MR turbo sitting in a box not getting any use
May send it off for a 20g conversion :D
Also fitted the scorpion downpipe & de-cat & my mishimoto alloy rad.

Had the rear arms done today on the recall, Brighton Mitsi had the car from 0945-1330 & didn't break a thing AFAIK.
Forgot to ask if the arms were actually cracked or not though..

It doesn't matter if it's an import or not, recalls are recalls - It's all Mitsubishi. Give them the chassis number and away you go.

5teve L
31-03-2010, 22:23
Yeah, ring Colt car company or email them & they will tell you if the car has any outstanding recall work, mine has been in the uk since 99 & they had no record of any work being carried out, they then had to contact Japan, this took from 5/2 to yesterday when I recieved the letter saying contact local garage to have work done FOC.
