got quotes on lots of cars i kept all details exactly the same apart from the reg number for the car and the resaults were insaine, i had 5 quotes between £219-£400 on a 2.6 twin turbo mazda rx7, but then changed it to a nissan skyline 2.5 gts-t (single turbo ofc) and the quotes were between £2700-£5000 :eek:
what the hell is going thats a huge diffrence.

oh and that makes the rx7 cheaper to insure than my renault 5:eek:
i double checked the details i put in, and even changed the reg to a diffrent rx7 resualts still the same. and i tryed this on money supermarket, compare the market and confussed, all around the same prices.

Perhaps because the Mazda is only a 1.3 on the insurance database

after putting the reg number in it comes up with 1995 mazda rx7 2.6ltr twin turbo.

perhaps it's cos RX7s get used very little by owners due to the fact they only do 10mpg and use a litre of oil every 100 miles

One of the many myths about the RX7..... The RENSIS lump in the RX8 has been known to do upwards of 200,000 miles, the 13B engine in the FD doesn't fare as well due to the turbos, but 100,000 miles plus isn't uncommon if the oil is changed regularly, the fueling is spot on and the boost not wound up and it doesn't overheat..... sound like something familiar :)

They attract more of an enthusiast following as they are somewhat temperamental lil' beasts unless they are setup and looked after properly (much like the 5 ;)) think they are pretty rare compared to the skyline, as a lot of people hear rotary engine and run a mile (presumably car thieves too)

It's all about reputation and statistics. Skylines are, to chavs, the 'baddest cars init' and so they have a bad name, and a lot get damaged, nicked, or written off.

It's wierd the difference in some cars.. I could get insured on a 400BHP BMW M5 for around £2500 (quite a lot, I know), but a 280BHP Skyline GT-R, I think the lowest quote I got was £5000. That's at the age of 20 with 3 years NCB.

Edit: Another point to take into consideration too - ignore insurance groups.. they mean nothing.

:agree: Renault 5's seem quite cheap to insure in comparison to other hot hatches of similar performance!

Rotary tuning in the UK is still in its infancy, so they don't last very well with the wick turned up. Trust. 100,000 miles is bloody brilliant, even for stock on an Rx7. 65k more typical. Rebuilds are simple, though not cheap.

Still do even with new software and uprated starter motors.

Rotory engines are frikin huge in Oz. Road registered cars pulling high 8's 1/4 mile (400m). I spoke to the bloke who runs JC Racing with a car putting out 800hp and he has pulled the lump apart after 50 drag runs and put it back together having found nothing needs replacing!
