has the 11 got shorter ratios than a 5? cruising in 5th on the mway seems to be quite high in the revs?

yes, a shorter diff. 4.07 vs 3.73 so revs will be about 10% higher for the same speed.

doesn't the R11T have taller tyres than the GTT?

Adey aka Ewok
27-01-2010, 14:08
Not sure on the tyre size but I know it runs 14s, would that be the reason for the gearing difference? From what I can find the 11 was only 50kgs heavier than the 5 so wouldn't of thought that would be the reason

Andrew Cooke
27-01-2010, 14:10
what size 14s?

std GTT = 195/55/13?

Brigsy
27-01-2010, 14:13

with the right tyres it's only slightly shorter geared than the GTT, 2%, are you on 50 series?

R11T is 9.1% shorter geared than the GTT

195/55/13 = 21.44" tall - std GTT
175/65/14 = 22.96" tall - std R11T, +7.1% compared to std GTT
195/45/15 = 21.91" tall + 2% compared to std GTT
195/50/15 = 22.68" tall +5.8% compared to std GTT
205/50/15 = 23.07" tall +7.6% compared to std GTT

all those are theoretical, so will differ to reality.

Would it be possible to do a similar thing as the VW guys do, they can swap 5th gear in situ and replace it with a taller gear......

http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q_how_to/multi/5th_gear_swap.htm

If we can swap them in situ, what 5th gear option are available to us?

Standard gtt is .76

Chris:)

I wouldn't bother, you have a 0.76, and the longest 5th is a 0.74.

It's either fit a GTT box, or fit some tyres of the right diameter.

Andrew Cooke
01-03-2010, 22:35
3K should be more like 63mph, even with your tiny tyres.

are you sure that your clocks are right, and that you have an R11T box fitted?

Yo, Adrian.

I've got a 5 box, with a busted 2nd gear you can have for nothing if you fancy some gear swapping.

Adey aka Ewok

Defo not clutch slip, I'll get the ID off the box tomorow, can anyone confirm the box number?

Brigsy
01-03-2010, 23:28
Is the speedo/rev counter accurate though? might be worth trying another set of clocks to compare. Every set ive used have read differently!

Mart

Chuck a tw*t-nav in your car & compare speedo vs. gps speeds. 4k @ 70 is crazy!

Adey aka Ewok
01-03-2010, 23:36
Will use the sat nav tomorow then, I used the one on the iPhone last time so that was probably outa wack too

I'd need to look, but JC5 isn't right, you should have a JB3. There should be another digit, JC5nnn. You almost certainly have a spurious box fitted.

I'll try and take it off tonight and get a proper look

Adey, i set my rev limiter to an indicated 7000 rpm on my original 5GTT orange clocks. Ive since fitted renault 11T clocks to my ph1 and the limiter now comes in at an indicated 7.5k rpm....For what its worth :coffee:

First post!

There is a little program from my friend

http://dp-automotive.hu/

download the "Renault váltók 1.1" program and install. You can choose gear box and setup the tyre size after it calculate the speed

Off topic and an oldish thread, sorry, but does your oil pressure/level gauge work?
