ok guys im not sure if this is worth me doing so wanted to know what you think?
ive been offered a 2002 cliosport 172 in blue, off a freind the bodywork and interior is mint, but he has a cliosport 182 engine thats only done 40k that hasnt yet been fitted he says i can have the car and engine for £1800, or if i want it fitted it will be £2500, its a friend of my brothers and my bro says his mechanic is a bit of a bodger so id probbaly look for someone to fit it, but do you think its worth the hastle? and worth the asking price??

I'd leave it Luke, keep an eye out on eBay/pistonheads/autotrader etc

You can pick up a deceant 172 for not a lot of cash :)

not sure about the 2002 172, but the 182 is definately fly by wire throttle.. could be a headache changing to to FBW. other than that the engines are fairly similar apart from slight inlet manifold changes and different exhaust manifold

At 1500 I wouldn't be interest unless I was breaking it. I've seen a few 172s for near £2000, and good 172 cups for £3500 or there about. There a yellow one in our very own classifieds that looks tidy.

If there's nothing wrong with the 2002 Clio in any way and you're getting a 182 lump, i'd buy the Clio and sell the engine

ahh thanx for the responces everyone judging buy what youve said ill give it a miss, the 2002 doesnt have the origanal 172 engine in its already been taken out to make room for the 182. ive seen the yellow one on here it is very tidy looks like a nice car, i personally just dont like the colour though. so its not for me.

yeah remember as well if you get a phase 1 its on the old tax system so not emissions based ;) also 172 cup interior is nasty.

Removed the 172 Lump for a 182 lump.

What a waste of time and money. The engines them selves are identical, The Inlet is slighly different and the exhaust manifold is a 4 2 1 instead of a 4 1 , this can be added onto the 172 any ways, i am sure the map is tweeked slightly as well.

The Early 172's as we call them mk2 Phase 1 172 had a cable throttle ( rocking ) The later 172 mk2 phase 2 had a Horrible FBW

For all the hasstle, id of stuck with the 172 lump and fitted a 4 2 1 manifold and ported the inlets to suit the gasket :)

ok so before i completly rule this out, i decided to go have a look at it as its only around the corner from my house, so heres some pics, i can get the car and engine for £1500 he says he has the manifolds and everything else needed to fit it will just need a remap after, im thinking if i can get this on the road for 2k its fairly cheap for 02 clio thats only done 40k, he also has paper work for the new engine.
but im still keeping my options open and having a look round, if u know any 172's for sale that maybee a better option for me please let me know :agree:

Sounds o.k. but a lot of work buddy, whats the rest of the car like etc, does it come with the box or is the one on the car o.k.?, what did he do to the other engine..., whatever the case those lights are..:jerkoff:..., still thats easy enough, sounds like quite a bit of work still though...any hows arent you buying raj`s 5 now instead...;), also as said above you can get them cheap enough now too.

yea them lights are crap still thats only pennys, it has the old engine removed already, and the new one has the box and everything needed to fit.
raj's 5 is lovley and im sooooo tempted was just toying with idea relisticly though a 172 is better for me.
and i know just the man to fit the 182 engine :)

I reckon for the time and effort required, it's probably better to get one that is ready to go :)

Personally, I would seriously consider the sunflower yellow one, looks very very nice :agree:

dont walk away, run.. if he drops his price to 500 for the car only take it, ditch the engine and source a propper one.
