right as some of you may know the head gasket on my car has blown and it had meant to of been done in september last year but looks like it was done on the cheap, iv fount the oil leak peeing out the back of the rocker cover as well.
so im actually going to make a bad situation into something good and do a mini overhaul on the engine as iv got a feeling its been a bit ran into the ground since about 2005 so here is a list of parts iv bought

Group A head gasket set
Alternator Belt
Distributor Cap and Rotor Arm (brass contacts)
Ignition leads 8mm UPRATED Lucas
Genuine Renault Fuel Filter
Timing Chain Cover Gasket
Spark Plugs NGK Uprated B9EG
Head Bolts 12.9 High Tensile (10)
Timing Chain
Timing Chain Tensioner
Fuel Pump Uprated

as you see i think this should refresh alot of things as the engine has done 109k so is prob due a good going over and its going to be peace of mind for me knowing all these bits are new and strong to withstand a bit of boostage :burnrubber:

matey, don't forget to get the head checked and make sure it is not warped and flat and within height limits also check the block is flat.
You need to find out why it has gone really :)

make sure that your rocker cover bolts haven't been tightened up too much. this causes the rocker cover to bow outwards, causing the leak you describe at the back of the head.

ok pal ill make sure of that :agree:

right the engine is going to be taking a different route now instead of me getting the head done straight away im being patient and im currently negotiating a nice fully ported head with uprated springs and to compliment this ill be adding a 285 cam and vernier iv also got my eyes on a front grill mounted intercooler which will then allow me to position the air filter in a much better place. now i know ill get slated for this but im also toying with the idea of getting a tubular manifold and doing back to back tests and seeing just what is the diff if any would be interesting to know for sure

Right Andy, so against all peoples opinions, you are gona spend alot of extra money on the head and a possible manifold, which is not needed for your level of tune, whilst leaving the bottom end untouched?! Where is Mart when you need him. :mart:

lets just hope your cam journals are ok....

lol dont worry about it its only money fella , this is all being done for the future state of tune mate as its an ideal opportunity whilst everything is apart, also just to add the bottom end will be getting checked over and if anything needs doing/replacing then it will be done hence why im not getting things done straight away so my funds will allow for any extra work/costs:agree:

not many people check the cam journals, thats why i mentioned it. if they are scored your block is scrap. unless you get it line bored and 'turbo 2' bearings pushed in.

just watching and bidding on a t28 off a 200sx s14 now all ill have to do is change the rear housing to a .49 as the .64 will make it too much of a lag monster, with the .49 i believe ill be getting full 22psi boost at 4k

What do you mean the head's gone?

Do you mean the head gasket has failed? If so, then have you found out why? The head will only cause gasket failure if it's been massively over-skimmed, or if it's cracked and dumped all the coolant.

id go for the over skimmed mate :agree: something tells me this car got rather neglected since 2005

Measure it, if its in tolerance then head will be fine if its all checks out on the pressure test

In what way did your gasket go in the first place?
Its the most important thing to find out why its gone, did it overheat? no coolant(leak), thermostat not opening, rad fan switch not operating, rad fan burnt out/siezed? or is there signs of detonation/pre-ignition?

BluntyR5GTT
29-01-2010, 15:27
this is something ill look into its defo not anything to do with the rad fan etc
