View Full Version : Tdc sensor polarity
I'm rewiring the Adapt sensor to go direct to the ecu instead of joining into the std loom wiring .
Reading through searches for TDC the std Ren sensor polarity effects the advance by 4 degrees .Would this also be true in this case ? Same sensor type as far as I know .
I don't know which pole is which on the tdc sensor as there are no markings

Clee, my advice would be to bin the renault TDC (same as the 5gt one?) and purchace a nice cosworth jobbie. It will require you to make a bracket for it, but you will save youself a lot of grief. I had nothing but pure problems relating to the TDC and so have a few others that i know of.

+1
Already done that Matt .
Pulley mounted trigger wheel and EFI-Parts style VR sensor .
I've had it up and running for ages but have always had cold start issues .The lump seems to want to run backwards if that makes sense .
Once warm it runs no bother but does occasionally play up after a good thrashing .
I had just spliced the sensor into the old loom and then it connects via the standard Renix big multiplug to the Adapt .
What I want to do is wire the sensor direct to the Adapt avoiding the std loom and plug altogether .
I'm just trying to improve the signal but then remembered seeing something about the polarity altering the advance ?
I can't identify which is which on the sensor ,not sure it matters but ....
Rewired direct and it started a lot better from dead dead cold :)
Only thing is , I then noticed I had no water temp signal as I'd managed pull a bullet off the sensor
I will have to see how it does it tomorrow from cold to make sure the temp sensor isn't having an effect .It shouldn't but you never know .
fingers crossed :) Im quietely hoping it was just a cruddy cas signal that was not strong enough at cranking speeds to trigger the ECU properly, causing some irratic ignition while cranking.
Hopefully .
I have run it away from any HT ,in fact it now goes in from the other side of the bay away from all other wiring :agree:
