Ok, last night, very cold, car very cold..

car pulls off, there is a bang , engine locks, and underneath there is a small pool of oil, about a cap full.

i put turn the starter and just get a click, as though its locked up.

Should i expect to see a conrod hanging out the side of the engine?

It was late last night so so i just pushed it onto the driveway but tonight i shall be inspecting.

The engines had a hard life i think before hand with little chavs.

it was a possibility, I don't know what drives the pump on those engines, so it might have been the cambelt. Either way if it had antifreeze ignore me as that's a red herring :)

I will do man, to say its a kick in the balls is a piss take..

the car has been nothing but hassle..

brought it, did 9 miles , hg went, 2 days later clutch release bearing went, a few months on and this.

The engine always had some funny isues aswell, strange hesitations in revs etc.

Ill get some pics, ive not actually seen it myself yet..

good thing there 10 a penny, get another engine off a breaker or ebay, give it a once over, clutch, cambelt, pumps pulleys etc and drop it in.. fingers crossed some happy motoring..

i fooking love 106's.... the j plate xsi i sold my brothers still going well, and best yet they never seem to rot..

you got it mate, there is one on ebay local to me. All being well id like to get the car back on the road for saturday night.

Cambelt/tensioner
Waterpump
Oil
Oil filter
Plugs

and hopefully all will be sweet.

althought its a bit cheapo spec ill reuse the clutch off teh current engine as its not done 1k miles.

Bit depressing though when a car keeps costing so much.

As we planned to get the car back on the road for monday we missioned on.

I found a low mileage engine for cheap , with history etc, and it was very local, only thing was its from a Y reg and has diffrent inlet, manifold yada yada yada, so there been quite a bit of swapping and changing to make it fit and work with the existing loom.

We found ourself working in virtually blizzard conditions at one point.

The full damage, the conrod has snapped and twisted halfway and put a slice through both the front and the back of the engine.

conditions were less than great at the north pole

the new engine got a fresh timing belt and fitted, along with lots of bits being swapped over, the only thing we are waiting on now is for the lamba sensor to be welded into a diffrent postion on the manifold as currently it hits the oil filter.
