View Full Version : carb freeze
doesnt really apply to me as mine STILL isnt a runner:sad2:
so how are folks getting on with carb freeze in this weather?
if you suffer from it,what are you doing to cure it?
i remember my last gtt which i rebuilt,it would always splutter to a stop on freezing days, id have to wait a few mins before i could start it up and be on my way again.
as im still trying to get this current rebuild running properly, i was thinking of welding a nipple to the bms downpipe so i can route a pipe to the carb top as per OE setup. i could block this off during the warmer months!?
No prob's to report here, and there's been plenty of ice days (0c or lower) for a couple of weeks now.
hmm...it does get very annoying...
on the motorway its a nightmare but around town its not so bad.
my cure is...full throttle & 20psi :D:agree:

I remember this last year as I broke down every morning on the way to work in the same spot. In the end I used a piece of cardboard to cover part of the intercooler, worked a treat.

i cured it by connecting up the carb base pipes on the orange one, when i had the evo i/c i got it bad on the m25 and had ice on the outside of the carb!

ive not run my car recently but in recent years when carb freeze was at its worst i just put the oe intercooler on and had no issues :)
worst problem for me is getting in the bloody thing. Central locking door solenoids are always frozen solid
Went to Bristol last night, never saw more than 2-3degs a.c.t's @ 1 bar according to the trusty Ian S temp guage.
Funnily enough, I didnt suffer from any carb freeze...until I pulled up and the cars idle dropped to about 300rpm and conked out :p
