Hi all hope everyone had a proper crimbo ,i need to get my sills welded up as i have rusty holes on both sides ,i was thinking of cutting the rust out and just welding a plate over the hole , thing is the holes are on the join in the middle , am i ok to weld over the join ??

does the outer sill come in two parts ? front and rear ?

All the ones ive seen are the full length of the car

As far as I know they are a one piece, as mine have just been done, but I havnt been up to the car to see the work yet.

Post some pics up of the rot. If it's just small patches then cut out and weld over the hole. You will gain nothing other than a large bill replacing them for no reason.

hmmm :confused: sure mine have a join making 2 piece`s , sort of in the middle of the door ,
ill have another look

The original ones are 2 parts but the replacement ones are a single piece.
Mine were gone in the middle and rear so I had them cut and plated. Kept the costs down.

I have had mine cut and plated also i have treated all the rust with a high grade rust treatment ,from frost .

cut all the rust out and seam welded plates in ,then sealed with seam sealer then stont chipped:)

how much are you looking at to repair sills this way?

i gt a pack of sheet steel off ebay ,pre cut you get 6 sheets for £12
then you need a good mig welder already got
stone chip/underbody seal £7 i use white stone chip
seam sealer £7 to cover ground weld
grinding discs £5

May of missed a few things ,but i gt all the nessary tools a car ramp helps also,
also fitted new front jacking points:)
