K & N cleaning etc

Hello,

My Mrs has a Mitsi Lancer and ive fitted an old k&N to it. Makes nice noise and Increase the power I reckon. Anyway its filthy and i have noticed a drop in MPG recently.

If the K&N is cleaned and performance increased will this further reduce MPG for her?

Or is a clean filter the most fuel efficient regarldless of performance?

my car has recently dropped it mpg as well. i assumed because its cold outside, the air is denser, and to maintain stoic the ecu has to add more fuel.

i'd be careful cleaning the airfilter. if you oil it properly, you need to leave it to stand. and let the oil drain off it. if you dont it can clog up the airflow meter (assuming mitsi's run one) and cause it to fail.
