I've done a Search I swear!!

Can some one explain what they are? what they do? why? and how?

Etc etc.

very losely explained they replace your standard inlet manifold with an intake basically for each cylinder. therefore allowing more air to enter the engine so more fuel can be added equating to more power, plus they sound amazing!!main manufacturers are jenvey, kms but poeple are using motorbike throttle bodies more and more now as a slighly cheaper alternative.

Instead of having one throttle body you have a throttle per cylinder. Some have a small inlet mainfold or for some applications they can be direct to head. These throttle bodies have trumpets which come in lots of diffrent lengths which can be quite usefull for changing the way the engine makes its power. I forget which way round but shorter trumpets more power less torque or vice verca. Throttle responce is also improved

Longer the trumpet the more torque you get

So are throttle bodies only for non-turbo'd cars?

mainly yes but nissan pulsar gti-r's have throttle bodies with a plenum and turbo however its not generally worth goin through the expense of fitting throttle bodies to turbo cars for the little if any gain to be had.

me bro's old corsa had jenveys, the noise they make is almost equal to the noise a 5 makes in 'nice noise' terms.

they were direct to head ones, and with the throttle open you could see the valve stems in the head

with the map and the cams it gave it an amazing bhp increase!

i used to own a 192bhp throttle bodied mg zr that thing sounded evil was very loud and viscous but on a big run it drove me nuts.

I always used to like Adeys clio 172 on throttle bodies. Looked / went well :)

Next time you see a wrc car have a look under the bonnet usally eight injectors and four throttles

didn't mudslinger have jenveys at one point?

Yes but, I think he had some trouble getting them to work for his turbo application?

I take that back. It was Mud's first throttle body attempt that didn't go so well (may have been from a bike?) and he eventually went with his current Jenvey setup.

spot on woz , the bike throttle set up was not reliable enough , kept getting fuel leaks under boost , so after some re-thinking i decided to try the jenveys , not something that was an easy job but it was a alot less hassle than bike throttles , alot of trial and error but i stuck with it and got it finished , last rr day it made 230bhp@wheels running a t25 @28psi , im now at a stage where the turbo is the restriction for making more power , Id love to at some stage like to try a bigger turbo just to push this engine to the limit .
