i can do it so they gotta be easy. Single beam with slim ballas. h4 single 6000k.
Right proper quality kits £65 plus postage if i can get enough names together for my order.
I need 8 names to go ahead.
are they not illegal to put in r5 headlights???

because its illegal but no one gets in trouble for them, its more construction and use than blatantly illegal (e.g having blue sidelights etc)
once you've driven with HID's at night, you will realise why they are superior
i dont own a car without them now, in fact even my missus has them on her KA!
set up properly they wont dazzle other road users either
you can get cheap sets off ebay for about £35 delivered although they take a week or two to arrive, but i havn't had a problem with them yet

It is NOT illegal!!!!!!!!!! It is only illegal if they dazzle oncoming vehicles i.e. poorly adjusted/installed
i thought it was illegal due to the older type headlight design
where the glass dictates the direction of light etc ?
newer vehicles installed with these seem to have diamond cut
glass on the headlight .

Installation MAY be an issue, i dont know. They are only illegal if they are dazzling oncoming traffic OR they do not produce the correct pattern at the MOT station

yep your spot on. You have to have a projector style headlight for it to be legal

how about getting the glasses out and getting them diamond cut ?
(dont even know if thats possible btw )
even then would you not need some sort of mechanism on the bulb
holder to allow change of beam direction ?

You also need headlight washers, apparently...
i have the 6000 kit from justhid.co.uk,there bright but kinda a mare to set up,i have the adjusters wound to the max an they are still to hi,have only just dipped the lamp units but have not tested yet, anyway i have noticed the minis and some bmw's are brighter and seem to dazzle way more than my cheapo kit...same goes for other makes out there.
i run 8000kw hid kits in my 5 and golf both go threw the mot fine:)

That doesn't make them legal. An MOT is not a legality test :ho:

Thank god. your right though, without washers and without self levelling headlights these are Illegal.
I just dont care.:cooter:

for xenon (hid) lights to be legal, you need automatic leveling and a means of cleaning the headlamp lense, eg washers or wipers
if it doesn't have both, then they dont conform to construction and use regs.. eg. the law
all the mot worries about is if they have a beam pattern, mine have a beam pattern even with old lenses

The ministry of transport said retrofitting HID lamps into a non-HID headlight housing is illegal.
You also need headlight washers
At last, someone in possession of an actual fact.
According to Regal Bulbs, who give the RTOC a discount,
• The glass HAS to be E marked with the number: ECA98
• And there HAS to be a self levelling system attached to the headlight so that if passengers get in, the beam height adjusts to the correct position.
• Most MOT inspectors don't know they are illegal and they usually pass the MOT, provided they are correctly adjusted.
The 35 Watter equates to about 150 Watts of Halogen.
They are not all projection lamps, mostly not I'd guess.
The £35 ones come direct from China. But people do say they are generally OK. They are about £60 from UK sellers and up to about £300 for not much difference.
There are 35 Watt and 55 Watt versions.
Colour temperature starts at 4300°Kelvin. That's a bit whiter than normal halogens and gives out more light than 6000°K or higher for the same Wattage.

On eBay I found a vendor selling H4 Bi-Xenon 35 Watt near me for £60 per pair. I think I'd prefer the 4300°K for maximum light output.
I bought the 80% brighter Philips Vision H4 bulbs instead from Regal Bulbs. Just under £20. According to the Auto express test, brighter than the 90% ones from the other company that I forget the name of. They are brighter, but less 'white' that the 50% brighter one I had.
Buy them from me!!!
Put names down.
