hey all,

after several months im still unable to get my car started

1.7 turbo on dta

its using a coil pack instead of a dizzy
and im only managing to get spark out of 1 side of the pack
some times big spark but normaly small

and to confuse things i get a realy big spark once or twice when i stop cranking

the diagnostics on the dta throws up crank signall errors,
but the crank sencor is brand new along with the coil pack.

ive seperated the engine loom to avoid interferance with the tdc cable (even tho it sheilded)

as ud expect im loosing patience,

the dta has bin back to the factory twice and come back 'no faults found'

could the tdc sencor not be compatible with the dta unit (exp 48)
or is there a wireing fault? altho this has been made twice.

or could it be down to basic engine settings

may need to go down the root of buying adaptronic with a loom allready made from the man him self

what trigger wheel are you using?
is it possible the ecu is looking for a diffrent trigger pattern to the one your using?
is the crank sensor a hall type or vr could you be using the wrong type?
just my meandering thoughts may be none of the above:coffee:

Im using the standard fly wheel, 60-2 and standard tdc sencor wich is the same as the c1j
weather thats hall or vr i dont know. I was gona bite the bulet and order omex as i thought it was the ecu but we tried 2 different exp 48's

with the laptop conected to the ecu and the coil pluged in it would turn the ecu on and off.

im also geting cranking speeds of 300 rpms - 7000 rpms.

dave, I've had a lot of problems with the standard renault sensor and standalone in the past (its a VR sensor by the way).

they don't seem to offer a lot of output, you might find if you remove one of the 11mm bolts and push the sensor closer to the flywheel then it might trigger OK.

the real solution is to fit a better sensor. Make a bracket and fit a ford sensor (a zetec one, or the cosworth type sensor with a fly lead are both easy to come by). Make sure the tip of the new sensor is no more than 1.5mm away from the flywheel. I bet that solves it :)

Mr scoff to the rescue lol. Wud a ford sencor fit wher the original 1 goes or am i gona need to buy a triger wheel and do it that way. Do u stock as a direct fitment.
how did u do haz's.

Haz's was just done by removing one bolt and pushing the sensor right onto the flywheel. It would only trigger intermittently with the sensor in the normal place.

You'd have to knock up a bracket for a different type of sensor, I find the ford ones (like the one I list in the efi-parts.co.uk shop) work really well with anything. You can have a 2mm gap or more and they still trigger! although, 1mm is what you're aiming for.

yes, it'll work fine with the standard flywheel, if you make a bracket to hold it in the TDC location.

I had similar issues using the std Renix sensor and fly pattern .This was on the GTA but the flywheel teeth are the same odd configuration ..... Bin it :agree:

Its the sh!ty Reno sensor Clee the Volvo flywheel is a standard 60-2.

I had the same thing with my old E48 I tried new sensors, re-wiring the sensor etc etc, I did what scoff sugested you try and bought a cossie sensor and made a small bracket out of some 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/16" and I've never had any further problems!

I guess you've tried inverting the wires first tho just to check its not the wrong way round?

Its nothing fancy, just a bit of ali angle with a big hole in that the sensor drops through and 2 small holes to bolt it onthe the gear box... I'll have a look see if i've got a picture but its really basic.

Yes, its VR and will work fine with your DTA :)
