Ok, a friend of mines putting the c1j into an old clio shell. He says he stuck with the wiring and just wants to bang it together so it runs.

Would i be right in saying for a c1j to run all you need is a switch on the fuel pump wiring , and power earth and switched power to the 3 wires going to the aei unit. ?

I know it would be possible to wire the pump in using a relay but the car is only a bit of fun.

ah yea , i forgot about the starter.

Am i right in saying its simply them 3 wires to the aei then, and that they could be taken simply from the ignition barrel of the car.

You can take it from the barrell but there should be a switch live in the original clio loom that you can use. The earth can go where you wish

ah sweet, its a 1.4 rt i believe.

It should still have the plug then as it has an AEI as standard and rev counter on the RT so no need to run new wires to work one.

Rest of the wiring is quite easy, just a case of connecting each wire from the gt loom to the clio. I did it one at a time using the original clio plug and fitted it to the gt loom

so am i right in saying he should use the existing clio loom and leave the ecu in place, but then tap the gt loom into it ?

No the original ecu and wiring for it will need to be removed, you just use the wires on the clio loom that will be required to connect to the gt loom.

Remove the ecu and trace all the wires back and cut them off, they're no longer needed.

Keep the starter motor wiring, alternator wiring and ignition coil wiring in place and whack them on the R5 engine.

Then either have the fuel pump on a switch or have it on the ignition.
