View Full Version : will r5 engines get rare ?
just wondering, at the moment there seems to be a fair number of 5 turbo engines floating about etc however i presume at some point they will begin to dry up, or is it a case that the cars will probably dry up before the engines themselves..
just my random mind really, thinking random thoughts.

Not to sure about the engine themselves getting rare, but a working engine/parts will soon become rare... how many of us actually have 1 or 2 spare engine's?? I am sure i am not the only one.
Well considering ive only been into 5s a short while i have
2x working engines, and loads of various spares, its ideal being that there only small though

Spares everywhere I turn. It doesn't take long for them to build up.:wasntme:
I've got 3 engines, 1 complete LOL
Can't have enough spares...I usually stock up as a certain Ewok is usually sniffing about :cooter:
I believe there is some piece of mind having lots of spare parts :P.
it probably doesn`t help the amount of cars that people let get to a certain non repairable state or the fact that people will just break them to gain as much money back as they can rather than sell on as a complete project to someone who has the knowledge and time and effort to repair a car etc
decent rolling shells will become the rarest first IMO
indeed i find it pretty crazy how fast people are to break and scrap the shells.

I agree mate, i recon there's more engines and running gear parts out there then cars to put them in.
hence mark turned to minis! :P

I've been into gtt's for a year now and the amount of bits I have is crazy!

Thats true to a certain extent but in a lot of cases if you have the time and the room it is a lot easier and more profitable to sell the parts than to sell a whole car. i have been pricing up whether i should break my blue 5 today and its looking pretty appealing. Also if some one dose want to repair/restore a GTT there gunna need to get the parts from somewhere. the way i look at it is that for every one that is broken mine gets a little bit more valuable ;)
I think the engines/parts will be available for a while yet.
The price will rise considerably though, the days of picking up good engines for a ton all day are already gone.
Im stockpiling plenty of random parts like suspension etc before they get expensive/rare.
Best stock up now whilst you can boys .
GTA suspension bushes are £100 + vat each and I need 12 to do the lot  2 years ago they were £15 .
Ok the GTA is a bit more 'specialist' but car makers are not obliged to keep stock for anything over ten tears old ?? so .................

How much! you may as well buy one of those mini lathes and knock your own up
i guess the one bonus is all the chav spec r5s wil slwoly die off due to the cost of keeping them, and specialist forums like this will be the saviours

i let a full one go for £80 the other year, it pulled 180bhp or something on the rollers a while later (with mods) and was still going strong last i heard..
got 1 in bits, one well spec'd one ready to go in and another fully running one coming out the car.. still got spares but will hold onto lots or it, did sell stuff in the past and often gave it away, but times are changing and gsf etc aren't stocking new:confused:

the new clios on the other hand will never be rare due to the fact they put so much polish and jizz on them the water just beads off.

Alot of those clio's are well looked after arent they! Although an equal amount get trashed about. Must be similar to how the 5GT's where back in the 80's?
I saw a 172 with recent cambelt change for £1500 the other day...
My brother and Dad have one, and they are about the age where they start needing lots of money spent on them. Exhausts/belts/clutches/bearings etc
If 5 GT stuff every runs out, im sure we will still have a shed deep in it. May have to organise a garage sale... Then it will run out, and I will have a nostalgia-driven midlife crisis an desperately want it all back!

im the opposite, when my spares build up i freak and have to flog it all asap. im hoping my cars at the standard now when i dont need to keep it all, but i still find the odd bit and i never even drive it.

trying to flog most of my ford bits these days is pretty hard, getting renault 5 engine parts seems to be easy for now, but then again, its like this for a while then it dies down again.
there will be a time when peopel will be desperate for some parts, but while theres demand for them then parts will still be available... just trying to stock up on blocks and heads just now the main things really!
