hi recently i have been having running problems with my car so thought i would check the oil pressure readings and vaccum are good to be safe. recently i noticed my dizzy drive gear was a tooth out so wasnt running properly, but now its set right fitted new dizzy cap rotor arm plugs plug leads aei lead, im running the car with a mocal oil cooler and thermostat and running oil breather and vaccum pipe cup mods. on the elbow on the braided hoses coming out of thermostat i have wound a sw oil pressure guage in and piped my sw vaccum guage into the aei vaccum hose. is this right? the car is still running slightly lumpy at idle will only idle around 1100 rpm on standard gauge with engine sounding right, i know standard rev counters can be out so just set it up off ear.my readings for oil pressure and vaccum are just with car in garage not on the road as not mobile)

engine cold 18 hg vaccum

engine warm at idle 1100rpm 14 hg vaccum and oil pressure flickering between 25-30 psi on gauge:(

fankicks in revs drop to 1000 rpm vaccum 13 hg oil pressure flickering between 20-25 psi

holding rev at 2000 rpm vaccum 17 hg oil pressure 45-50 psi

holding at 3000 rpm vaccum 18 hg oil pressure 51 psi

holding at 4000 rpm 18 hg vaccum and 55 psi opil pressure

then let revs off returns to 1200 rpm for few seconds before going back to 1100 rpm,

do these readings sound right? i have searched on here for oil pressure and it said should be around 1 bar when oil is warm and mine seems alot higher. anyone any idea?

I wouldn't worry about those readings. :)

do they sound high or low? could it suggest anything not normal with the engine? eg oil pump etc?

They are slightly higher than normal IMO but certainly not too high. I'd worry more if they were low! :)

My oil pressure readings are the same as you. I was worried at the time too but have been assured by members that this is ok. My engine was rebuilt too. :agree:

your oil pressure is excellent, don't worry about it.

your readings at idle are high because your idle is high, don't worry about it.:coffee:

thanks alot so what is lowesr oil pressure should be on idle and on driving so can keep an eye on it in the future? do the vaccum readings sound ok?

The light will come on when it's too low..... :)

wht if bulb has gone lol, also i have plumbed my oil pressure sender into the elbow at the oil thermostat normally where an oil temp would go, is this ok or will it be giving false readings????

Is this an aftermarket oil thermostat you fitted the oil pressure switch too, i'd personlally fit it in the oil feed line to the turbo.

hi mate i have a mocal oil cooler kit bought from tez,on here with goodridge elbows the red nd blue ones, on the elbow jut above sandwich plate is a 1/8th thread for tem sender i have plumbed in an sw oil presure guage i got off cgb other week, shall i re route it to the turbo hose, what would i need to buy to do it. think my oil turbo feed is a braided one tho???

Ah i see, it should give same eading there only reason i'd fit it on the oil feed pipe is you want to know what oil pressure is like going to turbo as thats whats going to fail first if you have low oil pressure

yeh mate thats a good idea, do you know where sells the pipe with the sender unit fitting, i could put oil pressure before turbo and oil temp at the thermostat. then all is good. thanks

If you pop to a local fittings supplier (Pirtek, somewhere like that), they will have the fittings needed
