hi peeps my 5 turbo wont start, theres a good spark but no fuel getting to the carb, also noticed i cant hear the fuel pump prime when ignition is switched on. whats the best way to test the pump and what else could it be, heard fuel pump relays can be faulty? where is this located and can it be tested? cheers

get the relay out and give it a knock and turn ingnition on and off , has been woking with mine the past few weeks..
or maybe a temp quick fix ...
1- remove relay,
2 - get a 4" peice of wire equal size to the wires on relay,
3 - attach a male 5mm spade connection on each end
4 - bridge white and red wires i think
5 - remember to disconect when you done as your batterey will go flat :p
You be correct re and White will give a perm live feed to fuel pump if you do yellow and White it is ignition live when key turned

5's don't prime with ignition on, thats more with fuel injection cars, the pump will start to run when you crank the engine over :agree:

well changed the relay of what i think is the correct relay for the fuel pump with a 2nd hand one from a scrapper and it still wouldnt start, ran a 12v from the battery to pump and it will now start up and run, not really sure where to go now but the problem is obviously lack of electric to the pump, any ideas would be helpful cheers
Think uve changed the wrong 1
its blak with an off white base.
The relay itself is cliped next to the fuse box rather than plug into the fuse box

possibly not, can anyone confirm the exact location and what the relay is like, plus how many prongs etc?? looking at my fuse box the fuses are too the left and there is a group of four relays together one is a buzzer which i presume is for the lights the big one i replaced was the left hadn top one of the four and was the largest relay there, it was about an 1" square and 2" long??

yes but it does not give the location of the relay, the only relays i can find is the group of 4 i have already mentioned
Its seperate from the fuse box tucked up quite high, has long and thick wires 6 i think. It shud have a metal clip that holds it to the fuse box dusnt plug into it!
Reach high to the right

:agree: put your hand up behind the fuse box and you will find it

behind as in above or behind where all the wires are?
Put pasanger seat at fuly reclined position. Get in upside down. With a torch. Head under the fusebox. Asuming u have removed the big cover. Look up center consol side. And fish for it. If it stil has original clip it wil b a ****a to get too. Its the only 1 there if i recal

If you can mate take a pic of the relay you changed, just want to make sure you changed the right one.
If it is and its ok, poss that the wiring down to the pump has a break in it.

havent got a pic but is identical to the one posted in the link, which wire goes from relay to pump? if i bridge the white and yellow wire for ignition live it should run then shouldnt it unless there is a break in the live wire to pump as mentioned

Bridge the thick red and white wires, one will be top left and other bottom right (or other way round). If you do that pump will run with ignition off, try that just to see if the wiring is ok.

Right so sounds like a problem with the wiring then.
Under the right hand side kick panel is the plug that connects the dash loom to the loom that goes to the back of the car, check that.
Also the plug under the car next to the pump, is that ok.
Check if voltage is getting to these connections and it'll give you an idea where the break is
Also one other thing, is voltage going to the relay?

what am i checking in right hand side kick panel? just that the looms plugged in? il check voltage to relay, will need to be the big red wire i guess?

You need to unplug the loom mate and find the wire that feeds the fuel pump, i can't remember what colour it is though will come to me in abit.
Yeah check voltage at the big red wire mate.

healthy 12v at the red wire and at the yellow wire with the ignition on

Ok you need to start checking for voltage further down the wire going to the fuel pump, is goes through the connecters i mentioned earlier

will i need to check it in the r/h side kick panel? apart from the connector next to the fuel pump what else do i need to check, cheers!

Thats it mate:agree: You looking for where it loose's the voltage.
Easiest thing to do is start at the pump and work your way to the realy. Just next to the pump is a plug id' start there first then move on to the connector in the kick well. These are the only 2 connectors that the pump feed wire runs through
Just thinking of it i think its a green wire from the pump so follow that one back

there isnt a green wire going to the relay tho is there?

I think it changes on the connector in the kick panel, next time your at the car look at the colour of the wires going to the pump sure one is green. Just need to follow that back and check for voltage and different points to see where the break is.

Pump then through little connector under car, then through floor and along the seal the through connector in kick panel, then off to relay which the wire is routed through the dash loom
