Is it me or have parts for these cars gone through the roof in the last six months? Bump strips for two hundred plus phase one grills around the same.

Yep, they sure have, and they're just going to keep on rising

I guess we can count ourselves lucky that we've been able to get as much as we've been able to up until the last year or so. We've not done badly for a car that went out of production nearly 20 years ago. Still, it had to come to an end one day

I just think it's a bit funny that it's now that parts are drying up, just as the gtt is finally shaking off it's Ali-G image and people are restoring them back to standard

i sold my new 1 last year 2 rob@byr for bout £25. gutted

wel it wasnt my thing anyway coz ive got a brand new genuine B&m in my house as well as loads of new oe parts. sills, sideskirts, doors, wings, rear bumper, grill, tailgate, glass, window seals, gtturbo badge, towing eye cover, f &r bumper strip,s sideskirt strips, top mounts and loads ov littel parts just 2 name a few.

i sold my windscreen pannel and cup wheels 4 good money a few months ago.

Some parts r selling for crazy money atm. its pretty scarry coz well all have to bite the bullet and pay over the odds sometime or later.

restoration is mega expensive and u end up with a 130bhp car at the end of it if u go back 2 totally std.

I respect wot people r doing restoring gtt's but i think its just the" in trend" and i think you should do wot u want with your car wotever makes you happy rather than following trends thats wot made the gtt appeal 2 me in the 1st place rather than buying a new car that u couldnt toutch due to warranty restrictions etc..

Rant over lol

Big Steve - Raider
29-11-2009, 14:58
Didn't Xenon mention he was in the process of getting some OE Replica's made up??

From what I can see the Gearknob might be a bit tricky to replicate becasue it's a hard shell covered with a Polyurethane foam moulding as far as i know?? NOT impossible though! ;)

It would be EASY PEASY to get your original gearknob re-printed with the numbers but the trouble is you have to butcher them to get them off the car & then you'll be left with a gearknob that's no-good to anyone??

Lewis
29-11-2009, 15:10
How about a sticker or transfer that can be applied to the top of the gearknob that has the red gate pattern on it? Might look a bit tacky unless it could be applied well.

Mart
29-11-2009, 15:12
Why not remove the gear-knob with the lever still attached, and get it re-printed that way? Wouldn't have to butcher the knob trying to remove it then.

In general you pay it because:

You want original equipment
You want it to be new and unused
You have no option unless you are prepared to wait and risk the item never coming up again

Maybe that's no coincidence ? Could it be that parts have sat on shelves for years while boy racers bought the shiney instead of the OE.

Quite honestly it seems to be the case with any popular car or item for that matter.

In general cars depreciate for a while after launch being used as intended and naturally reducing in numbers. Once the low point is reached the car is rarer and after a time starts to look interesting and perhaps to become something to appreciate maybe as an object than a transport mechanism.

Those cars lucky enough to survive are then better looked after as they have suddenly become more valuable and in turn more desirable.

I collect Minis (original type no longer made) which have been rising in price now for some time after the initial dip in price. Not surprisingly the associated OEM parts - especially unused - now fetch a premium with auctions attracting large numbers of bidders.

Renault 5 GT Turbos are obviously no different and I can see both the better cars and OEM parts prices only increasing as they and the parts become ever more scarce.

I can never understand why anyone is so surprised ?
