Are they any good?? Anyone know the ins and outs of things that can go wrong, or what to look for??
Any advice is much appreciated.
Ta Matt5
They are awesome little cars, at one point they were the hottest hatch money could buy, until renault lauched the phase 1 cliosport 172 which blew it out the water :cooter:

make sure the aircon works, as the climate control can be a nightmare and cause engine fan problems as they share the bitron unit
rear axle bearings, same as a 106, they can wear out
gear linkages can fail prematurely, make sure the gears change nicely
can't think of anything else
oh, and they go better with a std airbox, the fastest one around my way was the standard one!
the engines went through a phase of tensioners failing casuing the belts to go and bent valves, other than that not much with the engines, some are a bit tappey apparantly, ermm, rear beam rebuilds arnt to cheap, check for that. , cant really think of much else.

Had one a couple years back
check timing belt and water pump have bee changed- could be costly if not
check top engine mount
check rear axle bearings
to be honest not that quick and did get blown away by a clio 182
try a prelude 2.2 import , have raced my cousins s3 265bhp model and it cant get away until past 120 mph

keep hearing people say good and bad things about these but from what i hear they are a very capable car, i have a gti6 going into my 205 so exciting times ahead
go test drive one and find out, one of my daily cars is a 306 hdi which looks identical to the late gti6, it has a the sport pack on it so i presume its got some better than boggo stuff on it and it handles really really well :)

a spares or repair has just come up near me, say in the ad he wants less than the 850 buy it now, i'd go in for £5-600 and fix the knacked engine or just track down a cheap 2nd hand one.. for the time, cost of engine, and what your left with in the end, its not a bad deal.. shame i've got enough problems at the mo:disagree:
looks tidy in the pics, i think its worth a punt.. closer inspection needed tho:)

The engine in a 205 is a different story, It would then be in a different league, had a 106 rallye s1 with gti engine on 1.3 gearbox, this car would out accelerate a civic type r but maxed out at 118 mph lol, would defo do another rallye conversion.

im thinking with the gti6 engine in it would make the nose heavy but i will be finding out soon enough, i would of thought with a gti6 engine in a 205 it would be close to clio 172 performance

205 would be quicker than a clio 172, all about the weight and only 5 bhp difference

Cheers Gents, I bought one.
It was a trade-in at work, so got it for £400 in the end.
Popped it in for an MoT which it passed with flying colours.... Cool.
