The wideband is just 2 wires! fit that yourself & tweek the mixture so it's easier to start up.

im sure someone will come along to do the rest. :)

You must have money to burn if your considering taking it to prima!

Why not do the couple of days work req on the other bits then get the carb set up when the car is on the road? Only basic jobs to be fair;)

If you were closer I'd have done all that :crap:

Mate, for goodness sake, don't take the car to Prima. It's a massive risk and will be expensive to boot.

Surely this is a job for a certain Birmingham-based RTOC star? Worth asking him direct mate. :)

Good luck in getting it finished anyway. It's been a long haul.

How quick you need the car done mate?

markey b

Asap really. 3 weeks max.

just to add, im not bothered about having the torsion bar adjusted, its just a bonus if it can be done thats all as the front end sits 50mm lower and the rear is std height.

Ok mate, i will have a word with Paul (Hydrotec) and see if we could pop up for you and do the work if you get stuck. Will have to double check with him though so not deffinate yet but will let you know asap.

We normally do the work at my house but i've got a car here already with no mot or tax so couldn't take another car like that at the moment.

If it doesn't want to fire up raj then its most likely because the plugs are fouled up or flooded. whip a fresh set, or clean set of plugs in.

Thought about having a good old fashioned Saturday Invite everyone from RTOC over to help you fix it?? Maybe in Jan we could get something sorted??

also i notice, may or maynot be related but my passenger side side repeater and indicator dont seem to be working:scratch: the passenger head light and all other lights are ok.[/quote]

Could be the bulb holder in the front indicator. I find the contacts are not great. and if you give the bulb a wiggle. it will work on and off.

Come to think of it, if this is fairly common with these bulb holders then maybe something to look into getting a batch made up if there not avalible?

Raj, has this engine ever worked since the rebuild? Have you done a compression check on all cylinders? Your getting fuel and spark by the sounds of it so is it timing or cylinder related?

Hay Raj, sorry to hear about your continuing problems mate! It started fine when we were up there last, just couldnt keep it smooth. I thought the cause of that problem was your "squish???" area had been heavily machined, and not the cam?

If you can hang on a bit i can see if i can pop up over christmas time with my carb for you to try?

Have you checked the fuel pick up in the tank to see if the gauze is covered in crap? Also have a look at the gauze thats behind the part that the fuel pipe attaches to at the carb.

I reckon we were up there in the early part of January 2009, maybe 2-3!?

Is it possible that the mixture screw is snapped inside the carb, i had this once! try to change it,

JRP
07-12-2009, 21:02
Could it of snapped when it was put in, try to remove it this could shed some light.

just a thought i had very very simalar probs to you, and it ended up being an earth strap that was loose and the car would crank and crank and after ages of trying would fire up and run.

Just food for thought

I would stongly recommend that you only use easy start unless you really really have to,

seriously its like crack cocaine for engines, once they get used to it, they wont ever start without it

Check them all and clean up connections :) see if that works it did when i had the same probs. No doubt ile be told im talking rubbish or pointless in a min.. but every bit of input could help.

But it smells wicked!;)

I reckon if you could bite the bullet Raj, and get hold of a recon, or at least another, carb, you might be surprised.

When mine isn't spewing smoke or leaking oil it was also a sod to start, dropped a fresh carb on and fanny's your aunty, starts like a good un............:)

Raj have you tried changing the fuel? How long has it been in the tank for? My car wouldnt start with old fuel. I dumped the tank and put in some fresh stuff and it worked a dream. Just a thought, might be some crap in there?

Raj, you wanna hear the main fuel pump on my ph1!. Was a brand new Bosch ph1 pump, its the loudest pump ive ever heard. Been like that for about 8 thousand miles since i bought it !.....Alot of it is the fact the rubber bracket that the pump sits in is shagged so alot of the noise / vibration is heard throught the shell of the car

How did you get on cleaning the gauzes? Did you replace the rubber 'O' ring around the mixture screw? MIGHT be your idle screw is leaking air, you should be able to adjust it IF it isnt brocken

Chris Hebden

To remove the pick up, lift the back seat and there should be a big round cap, using a screw driver and light persuasion unscrew it, then lift out.

In the pic above, the smaller hole (i think) is where the idle screws taperd rod sticks out, this taper often breaks off. The idle mixture adjuster looks like a threaded screw but with a long staff protruding off the base of the idle screw.

I dont hear the turbo spooling up if i rev the engine in neutral on any of my 5`s. The engines not under much load so id be surprised if you could hear much / anything

Just wait till you get the thing under some load on the open road...then youl hear the old girl spool up :D;)

Thats what i thought, i cant get mine to spool up just by revving it in neutral, unless i rev the nuts out of it upto about 4500rpm

take air filter off and have a look up it as its revved...also (while the engine is turned off) check that the turbo spins freely with your fingers

You havent got a tubular manifold have you ???? That takes away the distinctive GTT burble

boost leak, carb not set-up right or timing off...?

IANMM

also is it blowing anywhere out of turbo ...manifold...exhaust? (leak)

breather restrictors?

this caused me hassle with idle/mixture adjustment in the past.
