just replaced the bigends and main shells put all the caps on and torqued them all up and the crank is stiff and cannot turn it. so loosened up the big ends and it turns freeley. all the bearings are the right size and cannot see anything thats stopping it. has anybody else had this happen to them. the shells themselves were brought from cgb. so wondering if it is just a case of turning the engine over and letting them bed in. cheers paul

There should be no bedding in, these are precision components and run on an oil film not metal-to-metal.
Are you sure you have the right size shells, and they are not an undersize compared to the crank? Worth mic the crank and double check.
I presume the caps have not got mixed on the rods?

What made of shells have you bought?
Because as a I know there is a brand King which is a bit bigger than it should be.

after the conrod caps are torqued up they should move freely, like you should be able to wiggle them from side to side.

yes oiled the shells. yes and they were the correct size.25 and was mesured several times because the shells that were in there originaly have only got 1000miles wear on them and they were fecked.

so has your crank been reground? Cos it sounds like the crank hasnt been ground down enough :ashamed:

Good shout by mart too about the cutouts facing the back of the block

You've mismatched a/the bearing cap(s), or fitted them the wrong way round (tabs should be facing the manifolds).

Yep, did it on the 1st build I did, mixed em up & 1st time it was tight, 2nd time it rattled like a ******* ... they are matched to the rods. :ashamed:

Also worth checking that you have got STD size bearings and not undersized for a reground crank. I got under size in a STD size packet!

just been out and took all the big ends off and put them back on 1 by 1 torqueing them up as i go so i can check that the crank moves each time and it does until i torque the last one up and it goes tight and im unable to spin the crank. does this mean that they are still in the wrong postion.

More than likely, the crank will be a little tight but should turn fairly easy by hand IIRC

Yep. Also make sure all the tabs/cut-outs are facing the manifolds.
