hi when modifying the gt turbo you get bhp gains but does this increase the topspeed of 120 mph or does it always stay the same due to the box gearing? is there any better/stronger boxes you can fit without major adjustments to increase the top speed etc? thanks

Top speed is more than 120mph..... gearing plays a role, but im sure things like you are asking are do able.

Certain clio boxes?

Anyway why do you think the top speed is 120mph?

with standard boost they prob dont go too much over 120mph easily, but why in a tin can would you want to ? at that speed if you crash theres not alot left afterwards ;)

That aside my car, slightley increased boost, that seems to balence these engines a bit better i belive, not enough boost, you end up puting your foot down too much and dont go anywhere. and on moterway boosting all the time to hold 80mph
were as with the bit more boost it sits at 80mph without the need to be near full boosting and also seems better on fuel :)

top speed 135mph @ 1 bar @ manfold , if you belive my mam , she reckons it would of gone the extra 5mph to 140 mph but the roads were busy in germany ;) and then are the clocks accurate

Didn't scoff once get 154 mph on the rollers with his old c1j?

Obviously that wouldn't be possable on a track with the little french box shape.

Top speed in a 5 is all down to your bottle! There not the best car to have a crash in!

I would say 6K in 5th would be just over 135 on the road as speedos seem to lose the there accuracy at about 80ish

I think it should be possible phil, with some big cahooners and properly tuned car. I managed 140mph in the rain at brunters one year (my c1j days), that got too sketchy for me. The same year at brunters Bushy clocked 144mph with the GPS data logger. that's fast enough right ? And forget the speedo while your at it, GPS is the only thing you should be looking at.

A lot of it is to do with the chassis setup too I think. My car is stable and stays well planted at speed, maybe a result of the big wheels/tyres, heavier nose, the stiff suspension & joints or a combination of all 3. I've been in some r5's that are not so stable though, you would not want to go much faster than 130mph in them.

But yes, speed is related to power as well as gearing.

I once got 136mph (on a private road) down hill slip streaming a golf that my brother was driving. The golf got to 143mph :). it was a R5 GTT phase 2 with just a bleed valve on. I think it was doing about 6600rpm in 5th :D

What size wheels was that with? Because at 6k it works out at just over 133mph.

mam reckons it was just over 6k in 5th 4 the 135mph in my car and it was backed off when at that speed and it was smooth at that speed, still had a bit more puff in the OE t2 :D, but not cleaver or safe at that speed i dont think. wait till i get to take the mothers lotus to the ring

:agree: or weather you have a brain or suitable place to test achive such stupid speeds:wasntme:

i got my 5 gtt so i would no longer want to or drive over the banning/killing 100mph mark.
my previous cars could cruise at 135mph and you can see your life flashing b4 your eyes at that sort of speed. In my gtt am happy to stay well within my cars limits and drive to conditions and take care knowing am not going to win any crash :scared:

maybe the oe revs and mph readings aren't correct :crap: and gps is?

but like Scoff has said above 140 and you know about and to be fair what you going that fast for? get a faster top end car if you want to go fast. gtt is for 0 - 130 max ;)

whats the point speed kills and its usually someone else that suffers not the jack arse. saying that "rtoc's trackdays" is my future way of going and driving in a place deamed safe or legel to do so at silly speed :D

To do 145mph you need to be revving the engine at 6.5k in 5th gear with the GT turbo box, there is a nice excel spreadsheet in files which can give you all the calculations you like :)

You will be suprised how far out some GPS are at high speeds. The question is what revs do you put your car up to in the gears?

rememeber that assumes standard sized wheels and tyres though. at 120mph it doesn't take much of a difference in wheel size to make a big difference to reported speed.

Thats using 195 45 15s. Using 195 55 13s your looking at 6640. Or about 4mph difference between the two tyres sizes.

Did a lamborghini track day on Thursday and was hitting more than 120 but that is a lamborghini lol

At the end of the day our speed limits are there for a reason.....I see no need to top the N speed limit and i Know for sure coming back form a french car night at ace that my 5 is more than capable of +125-130 but i'd never put that strain under the 1.4 push rod...it's fun enough getting upto 70mph for me :agree:

I've gone off the clock with a standard engine and almost standard turbo at 1 bar with the oe speedlines.

She revved to 6800rpm and the speedo just went past 140mph, I didn't have GPS to verify. But I was along side a 2ltr Nova which I know will pull that sort of speed with ease.

What I did find weird was how stable the car felt at that speed, it was perfectly planted like as if I were doing 80-90mph.

I wouldn't do that again, no need for it but it is capable of doing it lol

given a standard 120hp car runs to 125mph, this will be pretty close, assuming sensible gearing:

130 mph 135hp
135 mph 151hp
140 mph 169hp
145 mph 187hp
150 mph 207hp
155 mph 229hp
160 mph 252hp
165 mph 276hp
170 mph 302hp

i've hit the limiter in 5th, which is 7k, on 16" wheels, had to keep it on big boost to keep it pulling, but as i said i'd never do it again, far too small and unstable.
