Hi guys,
I am at a crossroads (AGAIN) as to if i should throw the towel in and get another 5 GT Turbo after 4yrs from my last!
I currently have my 3rd S13 200sx but am hankering after another phase 2.
I was hoping the biased opinions of GT Turbo owners could convince me to sell the 200 in the near future
Im trying to weigh up the pros of both cars to come up with an outcome! ;)
Cheers
have a project 5 on the go while driving your s13 around, then when its ready sell the s13 or you could keep both, i have a nova turbo and a renault 5 turbo, cost less then a grand to insure both cars for a year, one being fully comp.
go for it :D
What's the S13 200 like? Pics?
There was only one car I missed as much as a GTT after selling up and that was my S14 200SX (and an old CRX Vtec wasn't far behind).
Catch 22.

I know mlb123, in an ideal world thats exactly what id do-to have both but financially i couldnt justify it unless a lottery win comes Wednesday and then i'll be talking about Renault 5 Turbo 2 ownership :) :)
Trevhib thats the the thing with the S series Nissans, they are a great car generally: look good, go well and thanks to the Japs reliable and moddable!
Mines on an 'L' plate so one of the last S13s in a gunmetal grey. Its pretty much bog standard at the mo only with a set of 17" Black Team Dynamic wheels and a 30 or 35mm drop. I wont go into the full sp here but can get pics and details up?

That's well nice. I am rather fond of S13's.. only problem I found with the 'scene' is that everyone is too obsessed with drifting.

That is v true, and they can be a handful in the wet!

Don't I know it :scared:
And the damp, the snow, or on the wrong tyres, or off camber, or if it's on its period. But worth it :D
S13s and S14s are so cheap now, like Preludes. Undervalued and underrated repsectively.

LOL! and your spot on, i think they're definitely underatted, 210-220bhp at stage 1 which doesnt involve alot to be honest...
BUT i dont think they have the same "gallic" charm as the 5 GT Turbo i dont know what it is  lol
I have been toying with the idea of getting a late 200 sx 14a for some time now, the only reason putting me off is the amount of messers that I have had in the past with people not turning up to view the car or wanting something for nothing.:sad2:
I've had both, my S13 was stage 2 and was damn fun to thrash around in, it was either off or bouncing off the limiter where ever I went, best 400quid I ever spent but in the end I came back to my R5, its much faster in a straight line and so much easyer to drive fast

S13 - awesome bit of kit to drive and so under-rated nowadays for the grip that they can actually offer when set up properly! great car all round
5 - we all know the story with them, great car, great looks..
me personally, get a 5 for a weekend car and shows etc, and keep the s13 if you can... if not, then it depends wether u like understeer or oversteer in very wet conditions i think!:smokin::laugh:
You've got to consider the outcome of two cars that weigh piss all as standard and the potential... What wins?...
I'd drop the CA lump and get an SR in the 200 for a start. I had my S14a set up properly as the last owner attempted drifiting in it. On top of that I run 9.5 inch wide wheels, the car handles very well, hard with the coilovers, but well.
If you're sensible, you'll pick up some pretty incredible deals. I just got my forged rods in the mail today for £223 delivered from the U.S.
I've also found a Holset HX35 turbo that'll flow up to 600bhp for £450. It makes you laugh when these jokers spend £3k on a GReddy turbo that's made by the same manufacturer, yet offers a lower flow rate and lower pressure ratio.
I'm just going to big up the SR20, as it's one of the best and cheapest engines to modify.
Just as a note, Holset are a commercial deisel distributer. They just make very good turbos:D

Quite. Utterly different entities. The choice is yours as they say, you can't have it all. Not at the money we're talking here anyway.

You must have had a dog if your R5 was 'much' faster in a straight line. Look at the OE quarter mile times for both cars. The 200 is a fair bit quicker OOTB.
It's a more difficult car to drive fast though, I give you that, but just as rewarding once mastered (in a different way to the GTT).
Took me 6-8 months to get the basics right after 10 years of FWD.

Oli's car is hardly standard though?
This thread really makes me want a 200sx again..

I know Bric but he failed to mention that fact for those that won't know. In any case I'd still question whether a genuine 'stage 2'* 200sx would be 'much' slower in a straight line against anything other than the very best C1J powered R5s.
Moreover, Os's car has hardly seen the tarmac in its ultimate guise :ashamed: Though that's not through lack of trying the poor lad.
*understanding the pointlessness of calling something 'stage2' for the purposes of this conversation.
I'm not looking at S13's on ebay.. oh no I'm not..

When I see a 200, I just think: Couldn't you afford a Skyline? :scared:
I've never been a fan. Still, everyone's different. And anyway, this is a Renault owners club. Who'd want to own any sort of Jap Crap? :ashamed:

This is a better, less server-consuming discussion than the Saxo and AX rubbish littering the site of late.
And you're right Bill, those who have S14s have chosen it because they can't afford a Skyline. :cooter: The other factor is that the Skyline interior is pap.

Lol, im no better now than when i was about the issue of whether i should sell up and get another GT Turbo! :dearme:
Some good points made though, and i suppose it is a lot to do with personal preference and i agree with Trevhib above

I think the fact that I own an Evo, kind of means I might have been taking the piss out of myself a little with my last post ;)
I'll admit, I don't know the first thing about 200's, and I don't know a great deal about Skyline's come to think of it :D. Personally, I wouldn't buy either. However, when comparing them to Saxo's and AX's.........
........I'd still not have one :cooter:

You don't own a latter revision Evo, with £20k+ thrown at the engine. Therefore, I won't speak to you, you pond-life scum :D

Damn me and my K&N air filter. I must go out and buy the latest spec Blitz type K.N.O.B. triple high flow, stainless wood, all singing, all dancing, induction kit. Maybe then I'll start getting somewhere

Oh yes, it's definitely worth it. They're awesome
The servicing's not too bad in all honesty. Well, it could be worse (makes me feel better saying that  ). It's every 4.5k, or 6 months. A major service, inc cambelt, can be done for £400 by a specialist.
I'm not suprised people think you can't afford a Skyline when you see an S14a, as the R34's are still fethching £25k.
Although, alot of people do drop the skyline engines into the 200's now, without the transmission loss and over 400kg's lighter the 200's fare pretty well from that. I narrowly missed out on a decent RB25det engine a while back. That would have been pretty awesome.
I just decided to build my own engine as people try and flog their tuner built engines for more than you can build a new one for.
You're right Adam. There are some great options.
Though I think that as 300hp is easily achieveable from the SR20DET that'd be more than enough for me :)
I think my old S14 was only about 230-240hp and that was already plenty, lol.
300 is easy, and they do get a bit lairy even at that power as they only weigh 1220kg's. I turned the boost up to 15psi on mine, it already had a walbro pump and front mount and it doesn't hang around. It gets sketchy if it's damp though as I made the wheels spin in 3rd gear last week. That variable valve timing sprocket they run on the inlet cam is a trick peice of kit, it makes the engines what they are.
I had big power and 4wd, it got boring, rwd is far more interesting:D
A perfect summary Adam :)
Right, I'm going to look at cheap S14s on Ebay.... lol.
