Ok just want to begin this thread by saying , this is my first r5, and i have come from a scene of pug 205 gti, so this is my first turbo. Hopefully though i pick up the ropes of the renault 5's and get my head around it. Some of this topic is simply copied and pasted off other forums so a little wont make to much sence but hopefully its not to bad... enjoy...

Ok , i want to begin this post by saying a massive massive thanks to Biggy and gray for keeping super hush about this.
I have wanted a r5 for a long long time and this one came up with a huge host of problems, but ones i think i can sort.

We picked up the car on 6/04/08 and since then its been hidden on sarahs drive way, the car has its faults, and most of them became apparant on the return journey home, however i was told about them and i did pay knowing it had these faults, hence biggy came in the scoob and a straight bar, ready to tow.. However due to grays steady..ish driving the car made it back in one peice and is still running and boosting now.

But now is the time i believe the secret can come out as i need to begin work to getting it into a safe and steady (as a r5 can be) state to hit the road.

anywayz , here is a few pics, notice the oil leaks etc

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/djinuk/r51.jpg

main problems i can think of at min is

wheel bearing, sump leaking, carb needs setting up , smokes, no boost gauge, and a few niggles ,... oh and brakes

ill get a video of up sooner than later of the return journey we had in this car.

more than anything its a bit of fun, and the small journey showed 3 mates havings a great time and a great laugh.

enjoy...

well , attended the rtoc nationals day , and picked up a few bits for the r5, consisting off, a turbo heat shield, a bit marked and i may not use it , but was to cheap to leave, a starter motor heatshield, renault genuine new, been told these are needed to stop the starter motor suffering from heat soak from the turbo, aswell as the wiring from melting, and also some old samco hoses for my oil breathers , simply because mine have seen better days. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/djinuk/r5bitsandbobs.jpg Also had james around to weld up the few holes , and once again he did a great job, hole in the boot. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/djinuk/wedling1.jpg and the whole in the front bulk head, which will be seam filled as this couldnt be seam welded due to havin sound deadening and wiring behind it , so didnt want to run the risk of setting the car alight. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/djinuk/welding2.jpg

Well a few weekends later and i now have reverse on the car, no smoke, no leaks, and its idling spot on, the holes are welder up seam filled and indeed sprayed , now i guess its time to start making the bodywork look half right, I think im also going to fit a oil pump refurb kit as the oil pressure is still quite low and im sure it cant do the car any harm.

well bit of a update, my car went up to kenobis to have some of the rtoc lads (markey Mark & Ritchie) sort out the wiring, needless to say they rebuilt the engine loom and made it somewhat safer :)

Well, i brought myself a carb rebuild kit, and have had the carb in as many bits as possible whilst following a article on rtoc, All the main body of the carb was cleaned using sainsburys 13p vinegar :D, it pulled a lot of the gunk of but not all , but for now it will do, all jets etc were cleaned with carb cleaner, and all gaskets changed, aswel as the 2 throttle spindle seals.

got my full set of samcos today, just waiting on the 2 boost hoses, they seem good quality, and consistantly thick, and the bleed points are high quality.

A lock set and battery clamp from CGB
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/djinuk/22092007439.jpg

And the LM1 Wide band kit, first impressions are that it looks real well made and the connections etc look nice and bulky, unlike some other i have seen. I quite look forward to getting it hooked up.

Well folks, i booked a day off work to get the r5 ready for the mot.. even ben got stuck in :) http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/djinuk/30092007446.jpg Off with the gay smoked lights and on with standard spec. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/djinuk/30092007444.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/djinuk/30092007445.jpg And there show blows , well kinda, with a mot and all the rest of the shizzle http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/djinuk/01102007447.jpg Few problems so far, i cudnt work out why it would not boost, turned out to be because the turbo was missing the nuts underneath. Then it split a water hose, when it decided to leak out of a oil hose. Anyway with them problems sorted the fun has now begun :)

Well, i speant lots of time working on the r5 the past weekend, speant a good day with Ben , lil tom , and dikiee and even my stepdad keith hammered **** outa my torsion bars, and eventually they shifted, needless to say once greaseu up then went back in with relative ease and my ride height is lower. I also threw some rubber onto my turbine wheels and got them onto the car. Only thing i need to do now is redrill and sort out the rear bumper brackets. Couple of quick pics here of the new stance.

Good work fella - one more saved, I've heard of lesser 5's going to break. Just goes to show, keep your expectations realistic and take your time. After almost 2 years of grabing an hour here and an hour there mine is now at the point where I'm looking at spraywork.

Keep up the good work, respect to the help:agree::agree::agree:

Thanks folks, yea im a bit of a softy when if comes to cars, and cant really scrap them. Plan it so get the bumper on the car propelly and arches. buy a new rear drivers 1/4 and maybe get a decent passenger side arch, plus 2 doors and a few other bits. Then once the 205 is back on the road , weld up the new panels/doors get the bodywork how i want and give it a fresh respray. But for now i will just keep on top of the engine/running gear and keep it all going.
