:coffee:Howdy peeps

Anyone used the cheap wastegates that are going on ebay i.e. either the xs power or demon ones? If so do they function ok?

Point is, In the past I've had Jap parts (Greddy/Trust, Tial, HKS etc...) and to be honest they are nothing special and just the same quality as the copies out there!

Cheers :)

Some of the HKS stuff i've come across is total bollocks, and they get away with charging £3-4k for their turbo kits:crap:

I know people that have used the copy items without any problems.

Im running the XS power wastegate, seems ok up to now but the car hasnt been used daily just for drag.. Also used the XS power turbo for a bit, lasted about 100miles of mapping, one dyno session, and about 35 runs at pod... Best £80 ive spent..:D

Rob knows how I feal on this subject, I really don't think I'd trust a cheap wastegate on my engine. I use a tial gate, I want to be sure it isn't going to seize up when it feels like. I'd say that if you've got adequate safety (boost related power cut, etc) then there's probably no harm in trying the cheap alternative. without any safety nets I'd say rarther you than me.

to be fair though, I havn't scruitinized the cheaper units, so I can only base my concern on having seen how poorly built a lot of the other copy-crap is. Some of those turbo's are pretty good, I had one, rob's had good success with one, etc. Then I bought a GT copy core for buttons that had once been part of a "reputable" copy, it had some of the worst casting and manufacturing I had ever seen, no way would it have found it's way onto my engine.

little hint for ya, go on ebay.com not ebay.co.uk

You can get Tial wastegates for 2 thirds the cost of over here and that includes delivery.

I got my 38mm job for 60quid less than the cheapest place over here

ATP in the US were doing some good prices for real tial gates when I bought mine, which is where mine came from, inc. the stainless flanges, etc.

a friend chose to ignore my 'get a Tial' advice, there is a strong link between his choice and having a spin at 200mph - he went around at least half a dozen times.

a cheap wastegate caused a spin at 200mph? did it fall off and jam a wheel? :cooter:

More like didn't open and caused massive overboost, spinning up the wheels at a bad moment

the opposite, stuck open, and didn't make boost until it was a bit too late, 'but fork it, hold on and hope for the best'
