my dad owned this car for years he paid £7000 many years ago ,we did take it to a max power show in doncaster were it was parked next to a blue wide arched one,he never took it out in the rain always garaged,he was really anal with it used to take the bolts out the splits and polish them every week lol sure it was on ebay for bits not long ago..

I was lucky enough to know the first customer Francis Skeete had for this kit. John had it done in Pearl white and it looked the nuts....I then saw this for sale very locally to me and had a good look round it...The magazine article was superb! It had a big effect on me...:agree:

I think they did marry and Sona did her art work for another magazine (was it the same mag/publisher that Emma was working on?).

I did have a fantastic pic of her buffing the car at Donny 2002 and I can remember the little snip she put in Redline with Ralphy and cheesy comments *lol*)

I found an old copy of PFC when sorting through my shed this morning with a very tidy BB Performance Tuning EFi converted Tungy featured.
Owned in the mag by a builder called John. Car had been fully resprayed in tungy, fitted with new side graphics and lowered nicely on O.Z superleggeras otherwise standard externally.
Who owns this car now? or does anyone know where it ended up?

carisma was jamie shaw, heard he went off the rails a bit towards the end of the pimp my ride days, see his company is still going strong but no mention of 5's, carismas website seems to just be offering custom interiors for prestige motors and 4x4's these days, no mention of its roots or the good ole days, shame as they did some nice work back in the day

I spoke to Jamie Shaw recently and set him up as a trader on here. He was wondering about selling the silver 5 but to a club member rather than the general public.

The idea was to start a thread for interested parties to ask questions and talk about the sale and gauge a value for the car.

He now specialises in expensive interior refits to the Mercedes people carrier for wealthy executives and celebrities who want to chauffeured around in anonymous luxury.

This would be the car in post 13 of this thread? (http://www.rtoc.org/boards/showpost.php?p=108827&postcount=13)

I think the guy was called Kevin?'Tractor Trev' who worked for ktec owned a car of that colour and he and it appeared in magazines and did some times at the Pod that were fast back then. He also held the record for a while driving the DD autosports black 5GTT.

good to hear he is still about and doing well, im surprised he would want to part with the 5 though, if i had invested that much work in a car and owned it that long you would have to prise the keys from my cold dead hand

Lovely car indeed, but famous?

Markey McMarkos - The last memory I have of Steve Rae's old car is that it was owned by a guy over Bristol way, who used to be a member of the old site. I can't remember his name, but I remember he took the car to the Nat' Day one year. I'll have a photo of it somewhere.

As for the Delta bodykits, they are/were produced in Barnsley. Can't believe people would butcher 5's up with golf lights etc...

Cosworth 4x4 R5 was Bealo's. He's a good mate of mine but the only picture he can lay his hands on is this. Pity, he has great memories of the bad ol' days.

The msm efi car was a rot box? rumour has it the motor went into another shell

I heard this too. Rotten underneath.

ep twin engine 5 : owned by an RTOC member named Mark

scoffs rear engine silver 5: It had a makover, electric blue with a Volvo engine. Sold to a VAG enthusiast in the midlands who I believe is converting it to accept a VW motor.

It sat in a unit in Notts for several years after the prev owner lied through his teeth to sell it, I then rescued it and MOT'd it but before mapping ended up selling it to a chap that runs a motor factors down near the south coast. This is only a few months ago.

Still B18FT engined on adaptronic when I sold it.

cossie engined was that a yellow car ?i was sat next to that at rockingham 2007 didnt see it go out once

Stu still has it and it's now fitted with some ridiculous ALS amongst other things. Cossie engine with a UN1 'box on an RS200 subframe I think.

the one i'm talking about was black?? with gold wheels. front engined 4wheel drive. caught fire at some traffic lights. was on the cover of a mag years ago.

Shell was found minus engine & running gear dumped on top of a storage container in a scrap yard IIRC. Such a waste! Long time ago now.....

Which? It would be nice but.......... The top photo is presumably when Duncan had it and though I still have that bubble my garage has no power so the silver bag as well as containing the 5 also has half a dozen 1kg packs of desiccant which depending on the temperature keeps the humidity in the 20/30's. And though I have no detailed proof that this works the brake discs come out as shiny and rust free as they went in.

I can remeber a gt turbo that hasn't been listed. It was in the usual magazines back in the day...

Pearl white, dimma, silver prima racing style 17in alloys 7 or 8 spoke, quad lights, multicoloured (red, blue, green, yellow) patchwork interior inc steering wheel

Owned by an asian lad

It was on a stand at Doncaster race course back in 1997. Anyone know the car or got anypics?

That really low red 5 in the top left hand corner of the home page, what happened to that one? Who owned it by the way?

P

I think that was owned by a chap called Lloyd Bush, his username on here was Bushy? He lived around the Bromley or Orpington area.
I'm not sure what happened to the red 5, but he had a white 5 afterwards and was running 11 ish second 1/4 mile?

The last I know the white one was being restored but this was several years ago.

Just had a quick search and found the following.

Good pics :agree:. Was looking at one of the Beaulieu pics and noticed the Talbot Matra Rachos in the back ground. Brings back memories of being dragged round the local car dealers with my old man as he wanted one back in the day. I am pleased to say he did however resist as it must surely be one of the ugliest cars ever made.

Hey Guys,

First post, so hi to all...:)

Kinda got the old 5 flame back! and have been looking through the classified for another. Although this will be a bit of a "Challenge" as a I live in Australia now.:)

Would really like to know what happened to my mates old motor. Absolutely loved this Famous 5 car. I believe, sadly, it was broken up (by some noob) for parts in 2010, and some of the old posts on this thread may have confirmed that. :(

Does anybody remember the

Silver Phase 1 that was modified by BBR to their Phase 3 conversion? was in Fast car i think and was meant to have over 200bhp and we are talking many years ago.

The conversion was very expensive if i remember correctly.

It was owned by a older bloke with a beard in the magazine article. Was always one of my favorite 5's

Would love to know what happened to that car

Not necessarily famous but I remember a few threads about it at the time, a 5 associated with mike48, couldnt see any pics of it here. I remember the guy spent thousands on the build, sprayed it, and later turned out the shell was rotten. Pritty sure it was flip paint green.
Looking for the pictures of the manifold if anyone still has them? (used search function yes)

Not sure what would qualify a 5 as famous but I would say my favorite 5 GTT's from over the years, and opinion as to what should be remembered in years from now as stand outs, etched in the Renault 5 Bayeux Tapestry are:

-Scoffs beast of course,
-Stuart Clarke's
-Trusty white one for the history ect,
-Any cup car, more genuine the better, standard. in particular..
-The prima one yellow/black, not sure if was a rep or not, saw it at rockingham, blown away yes,
-Rowans old one, just cuz Edmund in a 5 is amusing image in my head, good history,
-Santani's from italy
-Andy Fandango's mostly white one, sick,
-Mudslinger white one, (lots of trick bits but never saw it run 1/4mile?)
-The first rwd 5, think it was tungy. (nocturnal maybe?)

Probably a couple more, but thats all I can think of right now.

Ah, that would explain it yes thx, just remember the manifold being quite nice, would'nt mind doing something similar, think it cost a grand possibly more. There was deffo a couple engine bay pics floating around that time, nevermind. There were lots of pictures lost from the old site for sure.

Yeah real nice James, like that. :agree: Interesting choice of engine.

Sure there was a twin engine project in london somewhere that looked like it had potential. Might have been from old site, liked the engineering involved or maybe the idea of building one.

Still more to come from the c1j from what i can see tho, be interesting to see what new parts get used or developed in the next few years, more efi 5's for sure, twin charged maybe, different fuels/turbos who knows.. just hope the scene keeps progressing pushing boundary ish.

The event co-ordinator of that E-reg pearl white with multi-coloured checkers on rear of car was Mark Kendall from Grimsby, wonder what happened to him after he quitted that role and disappeared?
