Hi peoples

Dose anybody have any ideas why i cant get any charge out of my alt.

I have a good earth, 12v at the top yellow wire, the bat light works, and I'm on my 2nd alt ! Both alt.s have the same volts coming out !:scratch::scratch::scratch:

I still think its the old french wiring but I'm now questioning my self so i thought i would see if anybody else has had the same problem on here.

cheers

check the alternator connector an wiring to it,your battery is in tip top condition is it?,
maybe its the battery that is shot?

Paul fitted a new battery as he thought it was this first.

I might be that both alternator's are gone (hope not as one is my spare one;)), think best thing to do first is try a know working one then go from there mate

what volts is there across the battery when the engine is running ? it should be 13.5v or more.

Its about 11.5v on idle from what Paul told me

ah, not much cop. The next test would be to check across the big terminals on the alt itself. If the volts are better there then suspect either the earth link from alt-to-block, or the wiring between the alt and the starter motor.

If the volts are still crap on the alternator, and there is definately 12v or so on the correct pin in the small connector on the top, then the alt will have issues.

It is sounding like the alts are duff to be honest mate, he checked voltage at the terminal on alt itslef and didn't get an increase in voltage. Just abit suprised both are gone really.

Only thing that did look alittle wierd was rev the engine and volts does creap up abit, not alot but still rose (think he said just over 12v)

yeah, i reacon you gave me a duff alt !

I am going to run a 12 feed stright to the alt yellow wire to see if the makes a difference, if it dosn't that should prove there both duff !!!!!!!

I am really starting to like french electrics

Mark i will try my old one on one of the two cars were doing tomorrow to test the unit.

As expected its not the alt is somewhere in the french rainbow ! Time for a re wire me thinks !

you've got to do those exact tests I listed. what voltage do you get across the 2 nuts on the alternator when running ? (hold revs somewhere higher than idle). it's important that you don't use the block or chassis as an earth for your multimeter, use the 2 posts on the alternator.

Yellow wire going to the right pin on the alt ? the one toward the front of the car if I remember correctly.

ITs fixed !

I finaly got some day light to have a look, and low and behold the earth lead from the alt to the block was buggered , which is why having a megger meter is well handy harry !

No more push starts for me, well for a while i hope
