A few months ago the bottom end went on my pride and joy gtt which i was devastated about especially with being out of work and not having the money to get it back on the road.Luckily my dad bailed me out by loaning me the money to buy a cheap trusty toyota to get me to work.

Anyways i was planning to get my car resprayed by dave at sbs then get the shell back and fully rebuild it with my dad because he is skilled with cars/engineering etc.Now im thinking il do that in the future and just get it back on the road for now by perhaps using parts off a low milage 1.4 non turbo B reg thats going cheap. Please could you let me know.

Are the box and block the same? Im guessing they are and il just need to put my gtt head on or get bigger valves?

Thanks,Luke

why not just buy new botten end for a gtt engine ?

you could put a full non turbo engine in

This engines only done around 20k and my engines probably a bit tired.Plus could get this whole car for the price it would cost my gearbox to get done£150)

So all the parts are the same as the gtt apart from the cam etc? If so thats good news because i could get the car at the weekend and get started.

no

not with out a lot of work you aint going to turbo that non turbo engine.

you could put hole engine out of other car in and run as non turbo.

The bottom end is knocking bad.Was maybe the oil pump failed because the readings where up and down a few days before it happend. Thanks for the offer of the engine and box but id rather have used the 1.4 parts if they where the same or wait a bit longer and rebuild it all fresh.

Was the original bottom end as far as i know and the milage is 110k so hasnt done bad i dont think.

Running the non turbo engine would be stupid but maybe not if i didnt have my toyota. Thanks for the suggestions

What are the differences between the engines please just incase i do still buy the car and break it for spairs?

edit- i remember being told miller&emmas r5 had a campus engine which was turbod for higher compression. Is that a c3j which will be in the non turbo im talking about?

o my good god. putting and non turbo engine in stupid ?? your pissing in the wind with your idea.

the engine and the gearbox are not for sale, you just made me think twice
the engine is prob better than my own

i'd say 110k isnt that good.

with well looked after and good serviced engines i would expect more , but as with most gtts they get abused and suffer.

Yeah putting the 1.4 non turbo into my gtt would be stupid in my opinion unless i urgently needed to use the car.I never said atall i was going to turbo the non turbo i just asked what parts where compatable and didnt really get a proper answer.Sorry was maybe the way i worded it.Im just gonna take my gtt engine out and rebuild it all fresh so i hopefully have no problems for atleast 50k when hopefully il put an engine in which i will have built up in my garage and aiming for 250bhp without nos which i realise could take some time and money.

My car had been very well looked after before the engine went.Got loats of receipts from radbourne etc but it also has a track day and insurance document with david william coulthards name on so maybe it hasnt had the easiest of lifes.lol I got it on 100k and had lots of problems but only minor ones.Serviced it 3times in 10k with castrol magnatec which i have used on all my cars and never burned a drop of oil

I think what dave is getting at is you could just re-build yours cheaper than buying the other car and a lot easier than doing an engine transplant.

You can probably do a full re-build for £150.00 I would of thought? (its a while since I've bought bits for a C1J)

Is your gear box fooked? You could probably buy one for £50.00 second hand?

A set of liners and pistons cost more than that now!

A local gearbox company said r5 boxes are easy to do and he will charge me £150 or less if i take the box out and leave it with him for a few days.I want it all new since the engines out because unlike you guys im not the most skilled plus my dad doesnt like me using the garage and asking for his help however i think he secretly likes the car.So this way im hoping it will be less trouble for a longer time.

Might get my turbo re-cond if it needs it or put a new one on,ktec manifold, downpipe, side exit, price of the gasket sets, need a new steering rack because theirs a lot of play, pistons etc i was thinking around £700 but i may be wrong. All the bits seem to add up in my opinion.Hopefully il have it back on the road early next year and attend the nationals day, motorscope day again and get to meet some of you guys properly this time.

Will the gearbox fit off the 1.4 non turbo and are the ratios any different? is it strong enough? Its not going to have any problems with having a ladie owner and only doing 20k i doubt.could sell the other parts off the b reg r5 on here. The shell looks good, dash has no holes, doorcards mint.Quite a few parts to use/sell.

Sorry I wouldn't include new pistons or liners in a full rebuild mate, I'd just get the liners honed to bed the rings in. Estimated costs would be:

Hone liners - £16.00 (£4.00 each)
Small End bearings - £30.00
Main bearings - £30.00
Top end gasket set - £25.00
Bottom end set - £30.00
Rings £40.00.

Trouble is it sounds like you need a new oil pump? not cheap!

How much is not cheap? Il be putting a new water pump on aswell and want the carb tweaked by a specialist if anyone can recomend one please? Il put a new fuel pump on it and still havent changed the filter.Already got a valeo green clutch i bought when it was snapping cables but the problem was the aa guy had fed the cable over the loop not through it so il fit that while its in bits.Need to highten the rear tortion bear then cant wait to drive it with a fresh engine and different ride height.Should handle better with the back higher than the front well my mk6 fiesta did.

Ive spent a bit in the short time ive had the car.I needed a rear brake boot which i couldnt buy seperate so got it in a kit from renault for :sad2: also go the pads while i was their which was a mistake because of the cost even with discount, needed a new windscreen and wiper spindle snapped so needed scuttle repaired and painted, clutch cables because the aa guy never fitted the 1st one properly, starter motor but didnt need that it was just the wiring in the end, door pins, toe eye cover, new lights because the old ones where faded, new fogs because the old ones where rotten, thermostat because it didnt have one.Plus many more odd jobs

I know thats nothing compared to most people who have had their r5s a lot longer than me (a year) and done many modifications when im just going backwards:laugh:
