Just got my 5 back together, fired it up, put it reverse and it moved back perfectly, yay, I reached for the beer and put it in first to park and got nothing, all 5 forward gears were the same, no drive at all

Is there somit simple that cancause this or is it a case of fitting another box?

Is it going in gear? can you select it with engine off? start car in first gear jump forward? remove gear selector and engage all gears?

It seems to select each fine but no drive, its like being in neutral.

I've disconnected the linkage and put it into gear by hand but there's no differenece in position compared to when the linkage is connected.

No jumping nothing, I can put it into gear and just rev away all day long and go no where unless I stick it in reverse and then it'll go backwards

Sounds like its not engaging the gears, is this the box you were asking about how to check? Did you remove the end casing off and make sure its selecting fine? You will be able to see the two bars move about when you go through the gears with the end casing off.

That wouldn't casue this problem. Is it a new box i.e. untested by you?

This box is the original box from the factory, its served me well for the 4 years I've had the car.
It was working fine but started make nasty grinding noises under harder acceleration and loss of drive, it was the kinda noise you get when you crunch it on gear changes.
One night coming home I was getting less and drive till I lost drive completely a mile from home.
It was fine just over a month ago while on the dyno for a day, it started making noises when I started winding up the boost

I'm confused...

Did it loose all drive and hasn't worked since, yet you put it back in?

Yeah, the centre splines on the clutch were gone so I assumed that was the problem so I fitted a new clutch and refit the box.

As it turns out the box is fooked aswell :(
