fuel guage

at what point on the fuel guage should the light come on. ive ran it showing virtually nothing on the guage and the light didnt show, i didnt want to push my luck in case i ran out

It shouldnt run out unless your reserve pump isnt coming on. It holds 7 litres in the reserve tank.

It turns on when you have less then 5 litres in the main tank. You should hear the reserve pump come on and the light come on on the fuel gauge. The light/pump will come on 2 or 3 times before the reserve tank runs out and the pump and light stay on.

If you dont hear the reserve pump fire and the light doesnt come on on the fuel gauge, the first thing to check is the small black relay which sits under the rear quarter ashtray in the back right hand side of the car above the rear wheel arch. You have to pull the ashtray out to gain access. :)
